Tennis! I feel that while soccer is more universal, in the U.S. tennis is more popular and has a bigger fan base. Thats the reason why David Becham was brought to the U.S. to play, so he could resurrect the sport and spark up the fan base, which indeed he has done. However, tennis is a very popular U.S. sport bc of the popular and talented U.S. players that we have. There are always dominant U.S. tennis players and fans really rally behind them. The woman's final of the Austrailian Open was the most watched sporting event in history on ESPN2!

I prefer tennis, but the two are probably pretty close as far as fans go. Soccer might have the slight edge because of the large number of youth programs compared to tennis. Another reason is that a lot of people do not understand the difficulty or rules of tennis. Tennis can also be very difficult to follow on TV since they play all over the world in many different time zones.

In US, neither Tennis nor Soccer are popular compared to
Basketball, Baseball, and American Football.
But if you are asking among the two(Tennis and Soccer),
Tennis has more fan base than Soccer.
Even by bringing in Pele(few decades back) and now
Beckham, Soccer will never be a popular sport, just
Americans think it is a boring and dry game. But they fail to
understand the entire soccer game instead of looking at the
scoring. Even baseball has similar scores as soccer, but
yet many fail to understand Soccer game.
In the world, the most populous game is Soccer.

I would like to say tennis, since I'm a tennis player...
But I have to say that the US is affected from the rest of the world like any other country so soccer is more popular.

Tennis. The ATP has been running for a long time. I'm not sure how long but definelty longer then the MLS. Also, tennis has bigger names. Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Roddick, Williams sisters, sharapova etc. MLS has Becham. Tennis has 4 majors eveyear that get higer ratings then MLS Cup. Tennis is more exciting to watch then the mls. I could go on forever, but to me it is obvious that tennis is superior to soccer in the states. KEyword the STATES

tennis. where i live there was a huge multi million dollar soccer stadium built that was supposed to hold 75,000 people but only about 3 thousand people came to the opening game lol

tennis. we have the us open and the us open series. and there are a lot of popular tennis players that are known nationally. andre agassi for example. pete sampras. andy roddick.
