I am going to buy a MAC notebook for school, because switiching between my parents PC, and there laptop is too difficult because all my files are on different computers. Being a high school student, I use word, powerpoint, and excel. I was wondering if I have to buy software for that, or if it is already on the computer. Also, do I have to buy software for Photo Booth?
Thank you all!

Just use OpenOffice or NeoOffice (a port of OpenOffice) instead. They're both free and they're compatible with Microsoft Office.

OK, first all the Photobooth software is included with your MacBook. You will also get iLife 08 which includes iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, iDvd, Safari, Garage Band, and more. The text edit software on a Mac will open your Word files but it will not allow you to edit them. Buy iWorks 08, it will open all Windows, Excel, and Powerpoint files. It'll run you about $79 and they'll install it for you. You can save the iWorks files in formats that PCs will recognize. Good computer choice, you get to save the money you would have had to spend on anti-virus software.

everything comes with a Mac except a word processor and spreadsheet program. My advice is buy a new mac and get iwork '08 as well. Office 2004 is like $400 and iWork 08 is $79. it does all the same things as word, excel, and powerpoint, but better and easier. photobooth comes with Mac OSX

Hi,

There's a rebate on the student/teacher edition of Microsoft Office for the Mac right now (expires Sept 3).

Did you know that Microsoft Office was made on Macintosh and later ported to Windows?

If you want the real thing, get MS Office 2004 for MacOS. You can usually pick the academic edition for around $100 to $149 (try eBay).
A good, free alternative is OpenOffice, mentioned by a prior answerer.
PhotoBooth should be already loaded in your machine.

Photobooth is built in. You'll have to buy Microsoft word/excell. Or you could download it illegitimately.
