Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse by Stephanie Meyers. It's a very good series about vampires that some people say, "Will be the next Harry Potter."

Check out Jane Lindskold's 'Wolf' series, very good reads. Or Dennis L. McKiernan's duology 'Into the Forge' and 'Into the Fire' excellent reads there also. Most of everything Dennis L. McKiernan has written has been very very good in my opinion. There are also Raymond Feist, Eric Flint, John Ringo, David Weber, David Drake, David Gemmel and the list goes on and on. Have fun reading!

I'm not sure what your age range is and what exactly constitutes as a long book, but here are some of my favorites:
"The Golden Compass" by Philip Pullman, The Complete Works of Edgar Allan Poe, "Of Mice and Men" and "Grapes of Wrath" by John Steinbeck. These are just a few, but like I said, I don't know what your range is. Good luck!

I have answered this question so many times, I decided to dedicate a web site to answer this question. Here it is:

Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, and a short review of each book.

I hope this helps.

I can second the recommendation of "Water for Elephants" by Sara Gruen.
Just finished "The Book of Lost Things" by John Connolly & it was fantastic -- like a fairy tale for adults.
"The Road" by Cormac McCarthy
"Gilead" by Marilynne Robinson

are some of recent favorites
