Swimmer's ear involves the inside of your ear, not behind it. You might just have a pimple. When they're back there, they REALLY hurt. Have someone look at it.

It could be a swollen gland which would explain the stabbing pain or an ingrown hair.

This has happened to me a few times and the doctor told me it was a swollen gland.

Go to the doctors when you feel you need to.

20 yrs ago my Dad had a small lump behind his ear and after a few days he developed a carbuncle infection that almost left him a quadriplegic because of the intensive brain surgery to remove it. He is fine except he lost his right ear drum and is 75% deaf in the other ear.

If in doubt go to the doctors, I don't mean to scare you but if you listen to someones opinion and it is worse than a gland I could never forgive myself.

said that this type of thing could also be a lymph node swollen from earlier or present infections, or a cyst, pimple, or boil
