Nothing I've found works as well as silversolder. You'll have to bite the bullet and call in a refer tech. If it is a new fridge (less than five years) it would be less expensive to fix. If over five years, get a new fridge (one with a factory-installed lock, or get rid of your thieving roommate).

It should only take around three pounds of 134a to recharge the system. I've seen auto recharge kits for about U$1/oz for 134a.

You are going to have it repaired. A new fridge will be about the same as the repair.
