Not like South American or Asian sociliasm...but more like European socialist.

Its worked out extremely well for countries such as Sweden, Norway, and Finland, which have been declared in the top 10 as least corrupt countries and most livable places in the world (http://www.infoplease.com/toptens/leastcorruptcountries.html)

Living in a socialist democracy, I would like to point out two things.

Life expectancy - the US despite being the worlds richest country has life expectancy figures that are a disgrace. The average person has a longer life expectancy in Costa Rica, Jordan, Puerto Rico and Cuba than they do in the USA. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_life_expectancy

Next is crime. You are more likely to be murdered in the USA than almost anywhere else in Western Europe. In fact, there are countries like Peru, Palestine and the Philippines where civil wars are being fought that have lower murder rates. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_rate#2000s

Just think about it.

I don't see America ever going that far towards socialism. America's melting-pot culture has left a lot of suspicion and oppositional expectations of what services a government should perform.
For every step in that direction in some area of life, I suspect that an opposing group would find some government service to 'privatize' back out of the governments hands.

No! No! No! No! No! No! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!

It's odd how the liberals who are always assuming the worse of the government wants to put it in charge of the most important aspects of our life!
