I was reading about guild wars eye of the north coming soon and thought i looked really good but its an expansion so i have to get one of the first three campians. I dont want to get the original but i cant decide between fractions and nightfall. i heard fractions has more of an ancient japan theme while nightfall has more of an ancient egyptian theme. is this true because i have a facination with both ancient cultures and so ether one would be good to me but i cant decide. which one has more to offer, and which classes do you find in each one.

Yes, Factions has an Asian theme (although not specifically Japanese) and Nightfall has a North African theme (not specifically Egyptian.)

I recommend Nightfall, for the following reasons:
- Heroes: All GW games have computer-controlled Henchmen that you can add to your party (so you can solo, or fill out a partial group of players.) But Nightfall adds Heroes, which are customizable henchmen that level with you, where you set the skills and the attributes, whom you can even equip. You can also control them to a certain extent in combat. It's only available to Nightfall owners.
- Story is better, and a little longer
- There are many more players in the Nightfall areas than the Factions areas, just because Nightfall is newer than Factions

Both Factions and Nightfall include the six "core" classes (warrior, monk, elementalist, ranger, necromancer, mesmer.)
- Factions also offers Assassins (close-range, fragile, high-damage melee) and Ritualists (spirit-summoning spellcasters who usually focus on support, but can also do healing and damage.)
- Nightfall also offers Dervishes (close-range, scythe-wielding melee characters who specialize in self-enchantments) and Paragons (ranged fighters who throw spears, and also do support / buffing with their songs and chants.)

Factions offers more PvP options, if that's what you want. But if you're looking for PvE, then Nightfall is the way to go.

Ok lets handle your questions separately. Each game has a certain number of classes they share, and then two classes that unique to that game.

Both games have: Warriors, Rangers, Monks (healers), Necromancers, Elementalists, and Mesmers.

Factions:
-Has an ancient Asian theme.
-It offers faction battles, which put large contingents of guilds versus each other.
-The unique classes in Factions are:
*The Ritualist, summoners who use creatures to buff people
*The Assassin, dual wielding dps killers.
-Its supposed to be the game for PVP.

Nightfalls:
- Distinctly Egyptian.
-Heroes, special customizable minions
-A new way of enchanting objects that makes transfer of enchantments easier.
-The unique classes are:
*The Dervish who do melee area attacks with lots of self-buffs .
*The Paragon who throws spears as they buff the party.
-Supposed to have more PVE content.
-Supposed to level the fastest of the three games.

I haven't played Factions, but I do own Prophesies and Nightfall. Nightfall is supposed to be the fastest of the three to reach the level cap (and it certainly is faster than Prophesies.) Most of what I heard says Nigthfall has the most bang for your buck as far as PVE content goes, so I personally recommend that one, but PVP is supposed to be a Factions special.

You could also get both once the price goes down and get the best of both worlds.

The world of MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) gaming can be quite daunting for newcomers. If you’ve never played such a gaming title in the past, you could be forgiven for feeling more than a little overawed. You’re suddenly surrounded by thousands of gamers, all of which seem to know exactly what to do, and precisely what’s going to need to be done to beat the game. So taking into account the cost of the initial purchase, plus the required monthly subscription, most seem happy to continue getting their multiplayer action on their home consoles.

But here comes Guild Wars from NCsoft. Now Guild Wars is quite a different beast from the likes of World of Warcraft or Everquest. While these games rely on monthly subscriptions to cover all kinds of costs, with Guild Wars you never pay anything more than the initial purchase in your local gaming emporium. Again, where the other big hitters in the genre require incredible numbers of hours put in, in order to get to any kind of decent in game level, Guild Wars requires you to display your intelligence and skill. With the in game level cap set at 20, which is reachable in quite speedy time, your own skill is required if your going to ‘beat’ the game.
