In a few weeks, I'll be going to Las Vegas and will be spending the first night there at the Golden Nugget. This will be my first time staying at a downtown hotel and not the Strip. Any comments or suggestions from anyone who has stayed at the Nugget or any of the downtown hotels?

Go to the Fremont Street Experience office at 425 Fremont, it's located on the 2nd floor of the parking garage next to Wal-greens, show them an out of state ID. They will give you a great set of coupons for the FSE hotels.
$10 free play - Golden Nugget
$10 free play - Binion's - Cut the $10 coupon out of the "What's On" magazine in your room, use both for $20 free play each
2-4-1 buffet - Main Street Station, This is already the best value buffet in LV. Two of you can eat a great lunch buffet for $8 or $11 for dinner Sun/Mon/Wed, Tue & Thur are specialty nights and cost $13 - the coupon is not good for seafood fri/sat buffet
2-4-1 buffet - Fremont
and a few more good ones

Try the .99c shrimp cocktail at Golden Gate - Best deal in LV

If you're a night owl or an early riser try the "graveyard special" at California's Market St Cafe 11pm-7am

One of my favorite places to eat is the Triple 7 Restaurant at Main Street Station. They have a prime rib dinner for $7 , after 4pm. The menu says it's an 8oz prime rib, don't believe it, it's huge. Don't order the 16oz unless you're an NFL lineman.

If you want to go first class, try the Pullman Grille at Main Street Station. It's only open Wednesday through Sunday after 5pm. This is the best "moderate" price steakhouse in LV. The restaurant was actually built around the fireplace from Preswick Castle.

Main Street Station also is one of the few places you can see a section of the Berlin Wall - It's located in the Mens room, down the hallway between the Garden Court Buffet and the main cashiers cage. It's a small bathroom, and yes, the women can/do go in and check it out. MSS has so many antiques, artifacts and artwork that they have a brochure at the front desk for them.

You're going to like the Golden Nugget, it's a very nice 4 star hotel.

well for one, enjoy all to be had in downtown, since they have pretty good gambling,as the strip has higher dollar value to play any cards games. I love playing the old slots machine, And you don't have to drive to see the Fremont Experience(light show),besides you don't live in your hotel room,, yes the older hotel casino have older ventilation,so expect it to be a little smoky..
