The whole song is about misfortunes caused to the slave owner by the blue tailed fly culminating in his death. As most slaves were very badly treated the death of their 'master' would probably be a cause for celebration. Jimmy, the slave, on witnessing the death of the slave driver opened his whisky and drank it. to 'crack corn' means to open a bottle of rye whisky. Naturally nobody cared because they were celebrating too.
