Right now, my wardrob consists of pretty plain t-shirts, jeans, and tennis shoes. I don't own any other type of shoes, I don't like wearing skirts or dresses. But now that I'm going to college, I've decided it's time to try something new.

Consider getting comfy, funky shoes like Danskos, Keds/Vans skimmers & Doc Martens. Birkenstocks are great & come in some cute colors w/ feminine styles.

Consider trying out khakis, capri pants & corduroys instead of jeans.
Find a great pair of classic earrings for everyday - like gold hoops.
Pick out a great coat, a cute jean or corduroy jacket & few sweaters (e.g. pullovers & twinsets) to upgrade your wardrobe.

Well, think of types of clothing that you've always wanted to wear but never did - maybe you should buy some clothes like that? Certain patterns, cuts, colors, etc... that you have wanted to wear in the past but for whatever reason you didn't. Also aim for something that will help you stand out. Going to college means being independent - an individual. You want something that expresses that. Go for things that you'll still be comfortable in, but are still more elaborate/bold (and perhaps more sophisticated) than what you've worn in the past.
The mainstream stores that I like the most are Delia's, Rue 21, and Alloy. Also, if you go onto ebay and do a search for "diy" under women's clothing, you'll find A LOT of cool things there.

Its good to try something new but you should also be comfortable in what you choose. You sound like a casual, laid-back girl but to rev it up a bit why not try some cute flats with jeans and a camisole or blazer? You could also simply find some cute tops with embellishments or other femine designs on them and wear them with jeans. Experiement with color as well and just have fun with it!

It's easiest for me to look online and in magazines like cosmo and glamour for ideas, and then go shopping in person to pick out the outfits I like. My best advice is to only buy something if you LOVE it and it makes you feel comfortable, or else you will never wear it. But while you are shopping you should try on stuff you would never think you would wear, because alot of times you'll be suprised to find that it looks good on you after all.

you can really make use of your plain shirts and stuff if you have some great jeans, some tank tops, and some great accessories!

to spice up your outfit just a little more, i'd recommend some plain flats, you can get some great ones cheap from target!
basically, you can use what you have, add some tank tops or jumper-tops to it, some cute belts and jewelry/accessories, and maybe some flats and look great!
