The soldiers' actions were the predictable result of being placed in an untenable position by a bunch of rich civilians with ulterior motives.

It didn't only happen in Hamdanya, and it didn't only happen at Abu Ghraib.

Those soldiers dragged off and murdered the father of 11.

We couldn't be doing a better job recruiting jihadis.

The soldiers didn't exactly go free, but they did manage to get sweetheart deals in exchange for testimony. That's the way the system works. There will always be apologists for these killers; as long as it's under the aegis of the state, it's not considered murder in the view, even if the victim is completely innocent. So much for personal responsibilty.

What is mind-boggling is that this same guy actually wants to re-enlist after his current tenure even though he claims he still suffers from psychological problems.

If you re-read the article some of the soldiers did not go free, but entered guilty pleas to lesser charges if they testified against a co-consiprator. This is an example of a miscarriage of justice by manipulating the law. None of the people that were charged with this crime had the strength of character to fully admit their wrong-doings.

Because they cut deals to testify against the guy in charge. Happens all of the time...not just with the armed forces. And that guy was right...we don;t know what it is like over there, he was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress disorder...when will the right realize that people have limitations, and war is not fought with unlimited supplies of those little green plastic 'army guys'? This war is criminal..

This is a fascist regime. It invades other countries and murders non-whites. A principal tenet of fascism is that some people's lives are worth more than others. In the Fascist USA, Iraqi lives are worth nothing.
A war for oil. A people without dignity.

If you actually read the article that you linked to you would see that one guy got 15 years and the others await sentencing.
