It takes a while to totally rid your house of fleas. The primary problem lies in the carpet where the larvae live, and once they detect the presence of a living creature, they hatch into full-grown fleas, where the cycle starts again. To see how big of a problem is, place a small dish of soapy water in the middle of a room and place a lamp with an adjustable neck over it (it helps if you place it with some support as you need the light shining directly on the bowl). Fleas are attracted to light at night like moths are. Shut all the lights off except the lamp over the bowl, and block off the room overnight, in the morning, look at the bowl and the number of fleas tells you how much of a problem it is for one room.
To clean the room of fleas, flea bombing is not usually recommended as it doesn't reach into deep corners of the room. Flea bombing also can spark a fire as it is sparked by an electrical source.
You can try dusting the room with flea powder and letting it sit then vacuum the room thoroughly several times while changing bags frequently. If you have a cyclonic vacuum like a Dyson then dump the contents into a bag away from the room to prevent any reinfestation. You will need to vaccum the room thoroughly several times a day to pick up any left alive larvae and pupae of fleas.
You can also try steam vacuuming, which some companies offer like Stanley Steemer. You can also rent a Rug Doctor to do it, since hot water and hot steam instantly kills fleas and its larvae.
Good Luck!

Get an exterminator.
He'll not only get rid of the fleas, but all the other bugs as well. In addition, his treatment will be effective for two months, so spiders are unlikely to enter your house when the weather starts cooling off.

There are flea sprays for carpets and furniture. Buy it and spray daily until you are sure the fleas are gone. Buy a different spray for your pet and spray it daily to!! Powders and collars just don't work so buy the sprays and use the heck out of them. One time just won't kill them all. Spray daily till your sure!!
