I would definitely press charges, how do you know she is even telling you the truth? For all you know, she could have dressed those children in dirty clothes (it's happened before, and its just a ploy to make u feel sorry for her, but It will be all on you if you let her get away with this, I used to be a manager of the grocery dept, and 2 of us saw this guy stealing a small item, don't remember what is was, but with all the security we have there, we called them, but this person got away, but they explained to us that with all the camera's, they can usually get this person when he comes back a second time, cuz they already knows what he or she looks like and the person thinks they got away with it, so they will do it again. There was another lady who stole something and said it was for her baby, and after an investigation, we found out that she didn't even have a baby, and she drove off in a brand new really nice car, so when she came back, she got busted. I would say for your own protection, do not let her get away with this no matter how sorry she says she is, cuz with all the security cams they have in the store, it might just come back to haunt you. Sorry if this sounds mean, but things are not always the way they seem, and you sound like a very caring person which is why she thinks she can easily take advantage of you!! I say turn her in!!

Absolutely, you mention the four kids as if it is the Store's responsibility that she has kids to be fed.
At least at $25 dollars she is learning before stealing thousands. She is the one putting her kids at risk of having mommy in the prison system, not the store.
I might give her an opportunity to work it off and re earn some of her self respect, but I'd still report her.

Well if I'm the manager....I would feel bad, but I would press charges....testify on her behalf and hope she only gets community service....
Then...I would buy her $100 worth of grocery and take it to her......

Absolutely NOT! I'd pay for it and ask her if there was anything else she needed. The problem here is that people think the govt should take care of the poor and needy, when it is the well-to-do and the we're-okay people who should be doing the helping.

Shoplifting is a serious crime. It is robbing businesses and forcing prices upwards.
Do you know how many stores this woman robbed before you caught her? Prosecute. God said, "Thou shalt not steal".
May God bless you.

That is a hard one, on the one hand you have to file the charges and if you don't you loose your job what do you do.
