More RAM would definitely help. You may also need a better video card.

New video card: $70 -$350
New RAM: ~ $50 for a 1 gig stick

For any Ultima game, 512 MB or RAM should be plenty. I think you might be looking at a connection problem if it's lagging. I assume you're talking about playing this online, yes? If so, then it's not your RAM that's the issue, it's some problem with your internet connection.

If you're not playing online, I'd make sure your video card and processor are up to the task of running the game. Figure out what you have now and see if it's up to par with what the developers reccomend for running the game.

The most important thing you need to look at is your Video RAM. Go into control panel > display > settings tab > advanced button > adapter tab and take a look at the memory size for your adapter. For Ulitma online 128 MB should be enough to work okay, and 256 MB should be enough to be happy...for the price difference, 512 MB is maybe the way to go if you have to buy a new video card.

512 RAM for memory is average these days, and I'd recommend moving up to 1 GB (1024 MB)

More than likely something else is slowing your computer down because 512 MB is great for gaming. Try downloading these softwares from the following websites:

-systerac.com
-iobit.com
-freewarefiles.com (search for Glary Utilities)
-download.com (search for ZN Soft Optimizer XP)

Hopefully, this helps.

More RAM is always better. These days 2GB is pretty standard. You will definitely get better speeds with more RAM.

It will also help to have a good video card with at least 256MB RAM.
