My gf wants to name our hypothetical son Zander. I want to name him William, after my grandaddy and uncle, or Daniel, after my Dad. I don't want a son with a hippy name. What think you?

I agree. A more traditional name fits better with your last name than Zander. I would compromise and ask her to consider Zander for a middle name OR Alexander as a first name (which is what Zander is taken from) and use Zander as a nickname.
It's really hard to argue with William or Daniel. They've been the top 100 names for what? 1000 years or more? Today they aren't that commonly used, so it is not unusual for a class to have only one of each.

Sound like you are more of a traditional type of guys whilst your gf is more of a adventurous person.
Zander is a great name...It's actually quite sexy. But, you and your gf should come to an agreement that falls between both the names.

Zander is a trendy name. William and Daniel are classics. I like William. Zander is ok spelled Xander as a nickname for Alexander.

I have a friend who named her son Zander , that was the first time I had ever heard the name before.

Name the kid Alexander and then Xander can be a nickname but he'll still have a normal first name. When he gets older he can decide what he wants to be called. Alexander William or Alexander Daniel are both great names.

Daniel is a brilliant name which goes with anything. I agree with you about having a sensible first name.
Maybe he could call himself Zander when he becomes a stripper cos that's what it sounds like!

I am so tired of everyone having to give their kid a "Z" name.
Zeke, Zed, Zander....Ugh.
Daniel is great. William is great.
It isn't that these people are hippies...it is that they, in their arrogant ideas of being unique, have chosen names that are sooooo overused. Once their kids get into school, they will see that half the class has names that start with Z.
