As Sesame Street suggests .... if it "eats and breaths and grows, that is how we know, that it's alive" ...

one might throw in seeking to reproduce, but that isn't a bit much for Sesame Street

or as Descartes suggested, I think, therefore I am ....
or
I am, therefore I think

if you can ask the question, you are alive

Cool Question.
We seem to be a entity due to us being conscious and compartmentalized as an individual. Yet then we ask what is the difference between life and death? Death is when our life leaves the body. But then what happens to this life? Does it vaporize into nothingness? Or is there more? Much more? I have many questions and not a lot of answers. I have found a great peace in my relationship with GOD through Jesus Christ. I still don't have a lot of answers but I think I have met someone who does.

Science has no definitive answer to this most basic question. Science minutely describes the mechanics of living but cannot say what is the motivating force driving the machine. Nor can science define life by the lack of it -- death -- for there is conflict in scientific opinion about what constitutes the moment of death in human beings.

To define life in unequivocal terms is still a challenge for scientists.
