The President of the United States does not work a 9 AM to 5 PM job. For most of them it is more like a 6 AM to 10 PM job six days a week with some work necessary on Sundays. And they do this for four to eight years with relatively little time off for vacation. They're paid a little over $400K a year now, but when you divide that by the hours they actually put in, its not really that much. Anyone who thinks that Presidents become President to become rich is crazy. Several Presidents have given up other positions, or opportunities for other positions where they would have made substantially more money doing anything else to become President and serve the country. They also tend to contribute large sums to their own campaigns, which is far greater than anything they get back in salary if they win.

They receive a large number of death threats every year from wacos that just want to become famous for taking out the President, and though not all of those threats are realisitc, many of them would be if the opportunity presented itself.

At any given time, no matter what you do or why you do it, roughly 1/2 of the entire country hates you. Not to mention you have the stress everyday of conflict between nuclear powers and terrorist organizations, many of which are sponsored by other countries.

Having people with devious ulterior motives attacking you and spreading vicious lies about you to try to destroy your reputation, and family, and efforts to be effective, just because they may have one issue they stongly disagree with you about (there are many problems in our country that are caused, or made worse by "one-issue" fanatics).

The benefits - full time security force, full time housekeeping and cooking staff. Your own plane (actually there are always two planes that fly everywhere the President flys) that will take you wherever you want to go at a momenets notice. Camp David, getting to meet pretty much anyone you want, getting an opportunity to shape the future of our country and society, living in the White House, access to nearly unlimited information about what's going on in the world.

One major disadvantage is being the scapegoat for the United States turmoil. The benefits of being a president is being apart of American History.

Unlike the rest of us who are reduced to playing games on Intendo, the US President can wage an ILLEGAL REAL WAR based upon a pack of filthy lies and cause the slaughter of 400,000 real/living/breathing innocent Iraqi civilians in REAL TIME .

WOW !!!!!!

HE can have prisoners tortured and killed. No fake bullets for the President !!!

He has the incredible power of turning an entire terrorist free country into a terrorist haven. He is a RAMBO times ten !!!!

And all important because he has so much military power he can actually get away with CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY without being arrested and tried /

WOW ,that is a huge advantage .

Another thing the President can do which we cannot is to get over 3500 Americans to kill themselves for nothing but a pack of lies and a barrel of oil and tell them that that is the PATRIOTIC thing to do and these dead souls believe him .WOW ,that is an advantage.

Advantage - Power, fame, being part of history, making a difference in the world
Disadvantage - Accountability, responsibility, open to be criticized by everyone in the world, being blamed for everything, you can't make all the people happy all the time, dangerous (people threaten you)

The President of the United States of America is the head of state and head of government of the United States. The president is at the head of the executive branch of the federal government, whose role is to enforce national law as given in the Constitution and written by Congress. Article Two of the Constitution establishes the president as commander-in-chief of the armed forces and enumerates powers specifically granted to the president, including the power to sign into law or veto bills passed by both houses of Congress, to create a Cabinet of advisors, to grant pardons or reprieves, and, with the "advice and consent" of the Senate, to make treaties and appoint federal officers, ambassadors, and federal judges, including Justices of the Supreme Court. As with officials in the other branches of the United States government, the Constitution restrains the President with a set of checks and balances designed to prevent any individual or group from taking absolute power.[2][3]

In addition, while the president cannot directly introduce legislation, he can play an important role in shaping it, especially if the president's political party has a majority in one or both houses of Congress. While members of the executive branch are prohibited from simultaneously holding seats in Congress, they often write legislation and allow a member of Congress to introduce it for them. The president can further influence the legislative branch through the annual constitutionally mandated State of the Union Address, which outlines the president's legislative proposals for the coming year. If Congress passes a bill that the president disapproves of, he may veto it; the veto can be overridden only by two-thirds of both houses of Congress, making it substantially more difficult to enact the law.

Perhaps the most important of all presidential powers is command of the armed forces as commander-in-chief.

Nice house, limo, plane, gets to be leader of free world, security provided, good food, and in one case, access to babes.

The downside is long work days, no union representative, and has to be polite to ignorant critics. In one case, having to constantly dodge investigators, be impeached, explain stains on Oval Office carpet, return stolen furniture, provide moral support for less intelligent spouse, duck sticky questions concerning morality, sidestep rape accusers, look the other way while wife is stealing FBI files, firing Travel Office employees, engage in insider trading of cattle futures, tapdance around definition of "is", etc..........My fingers are getting tired......
