Whites are now in the minority in nearly one in 10 U.S. counties. And that increased diversity, fueled by immigration and higher birth rates among blacks and Hispanics, is straining race relations and sparking a backlash against immigrants in many communities.

"There's some culture shock," said Mark Mather of the Population Reference Bureau, a Washington-based research agency. "But I think there is a momentum building, and it is going to continue."

It's not just in the USA- Europe is experiencing this to an even greater degree. Birth rates have been declining at the same time the've had massive growth of their immigrant population- mostly refugees from war-torn African and Asian countries.

One misleading thing about US statistics is that whites haven't been a large majority for many years in several large cities- many census counts in the 1980s and even 1990s were skewed because official forms did not include major categories (like Hispanic and Arab) - the only choices were white, native american, black or asian. Hispanics were instructed to choose "white".

Now that most forms have been updated, the shift in numbers looks even more dramatic than it really is. In any case, ethnic makeup is a constantly changing thing for every country nowadays- the picture will probably look entirely different 100 years from now.

The bottom line is that anyone born & raised here is American, it doesn't matter where our parents came from, or what our skin color is. Culture and values are what matter, not ethnic background.

All this minority stuff has really got my dander up I can't even get a job in my area because of "minority"( everyone else that is a woman or ethnically acceptable) favoritism has run rampant. That is exactly the plan of the world order subjugate the working middle class white man bring them to poverty and you can control them like everyone else in the world. Good! Finally the ideal of Americans being of all races! Judged by their character and not how they look! Just think of it! Then think about all of those EEOC and minority status changes that would have been to the BENEFIT everybody that has been discriminated against in Equal Opportunity that are being laid to the wayside, because it was percieved that it was Only for Blacks, Hispanics and Asians. Now who do you blame that on? Everybody needs protection from discriminatory practices in housing, education and on the job.

My thoughts? Whites are now a minority in 1 in 10 US counties. So what? I'm white but most of my friends are not. To me 1 in 10 counties is progress.

So, in just 10% of US counties, whites make up somewhat less than 50% of the population? And, of course, there's unlikely to be just a single other race in those counties, so there's probably no "majority" and likely whites are still the largest single block in most of them. Add in the 90% of counties that are still majority-whte (some fairly large chunk of which are probably virtually all-white), and you get a big, fat yaaawwwnnnnnn.

Sorry, but you're going to have to do more than present those highly-massaged statistics to scare anyone who isn't already in your little racist choir.

If whites becoming minority then what?You are not going to live with animals or people from another planet?you are going to live with same human.It's just matter of skin.Do they have different colored blood?May be whites will have to learn how to behave nicely and respectfully with all those minorities and that is very necessary in this country.At least no one will be superior but same.
