If you mean the Federal government then the military is the vast majority of their responsibility. There are some interstate issues that they may need to be involved with but little else.

in the United States, the Federal Government is ONLY SUPPOSED to provide an army and navy for national defense.
the next thing the Feds are supposed to do is control interstate commerce.

These are the only two responsibilities of the U.S. Federal Government.

F.D.R. ( democrap ) was the one who started most of the socialist programs we have today... most of these programs are bankrupt.

Jesus Christ was not a socialist. He said his kingdom was NO PART OF THIS WORLD. He is a King, and his kingship will be in the Heavens. All who live on this Earth then will be subjects of his kingdom, and will worship his Father, God. Jesus was a Theocrat.

National Security (if we are talking about the Federal Government) and to make sure the Local, County and State Governments don't get out of control.

The Federal Government is responsible for National security and making sure States do not over step themselves with the people, they should have NO power over the individual on a day to day basis...States should have the majority of power with the individual...and that should have it's clear limits as well.

It seems to me that the government has set various precedents for what they are responsible for. The three branches of government are responsible for making laws, settling differences and deciding what the laws mean, government funding, carrying out the laws and makes sure the laws are obeyed, and the school board system. I can give you a whole list of what the government is responsible for, but these responsibilities are most important.

The responsibilities of government are to "establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity"

I fully believe that it should be limited to that.

The Common Good.

Fire Stations, Police Stations, some welfare to hold people over until they get a job, help for poor children.

I hate to repulse you with Christian theory but we are all in this life together.
