Wand-Wood
Bowtruckles, tree-guardians, opt to live in wand-trees whose wood is of wand quality - Wand-wood. Therefore, it can be assumed that one can not simply walk into a forest, retrieve a twig, and create a wand. Wand-wood may already be magical or merely be the only type of wood strong enough to sustain the power of magic within.

Magical Cores
Wands contain Magical Cores, possibly magically inserted once the wand has been carved. These magical cores enhance the wand magic or give the wand-wood magical abilities. The only cores able to produce magic are from magical species. Mr. Ollivander opts to only use Phoenix Feathers, Unicorn Tail Hairs, and Dragon Heartstrings, which may be the most powerful and best of magical cores (Although other materials, such as Veela hair, have been mentioned) - Ollivander wands have been praised for being the best.

Out of the two, I'd say Harry Potter because it has three dimensional characters that develop throughout the story, the storyline is well thought through and there are enough twists to keep you interested, whereas Twilight is full of cliches, flat characters that stay the same throughout the stories and has no storyline whatsoever. As far as the way it is written, I'd say Harry Potter as well, because although it's written simply, it's much better than the way Meyer seems to have abused the thesaurus by using it on every other word to try and make herself sound smarter, but it just ends up as nonsense. However, if there were other books involved, I'd say neither because they'd probably both be beaten by a more adult book.

Well, there are a lot of things that can be in the wands according to the books. These include pheonix feathers, dragon heart-strings, unicorn hairs and I'm sure more things that aren't mentioned. Then again, some don't mention a core and I wonder if they all have one.

Now, if you really buy one like from Alivan's it is made of wood with nothing inside it, but they are very nice wands. My son has one that we bought from somewhere else (Target or something) is very whippy and clearly some sort of plastic. I have seen some plastic ones that are hollow. The ones that I saw at Barnes and Noble do have wires and batteries inside so that they light up.

I hope this helps.

Wands either had a phoenix feather, a dragon heartstring, a unicorn hair or other hair or part of some magical creature inside of the wood. For example, Fleur's wand had a hair from her grandmother who is a veela.
The wood of the wand can be any kind of tree wood like yew, cherry, elm, oak but I think it's been said that some trees are better for wands than others.
Here's a page where you can read up more on wands http://www.hp-lexicon.org/magic/wands.html

Wands have all kinds of things inside them that have magical properties. Some of the most common include phoenix feathers, dragon heartstring, and unicorn tail hair. This is called the wands core. All wands use different kinds of wood, and matched with the core, it makes each wand different. Wands also have different lenghts. It can be 11in 12 in 13in ect... Remember the wand choses the wizard.

All the wands have something in the middle of them. Harry's was a Phoenix feather, others had other magical things--I recall Dragon Heart String.

Here's a great resource on wands:
