you are homophibic or a hate mongar. I answered a recent question as to why Republicans may not have attended the LOGO debate. I stated that because they may not agree with that lifestyle they may not have attended. Furthermore that they have the right to stand up for their principles and points of view. For this I was called a homophobe.

I don't condone the lifestyle but I certainly don't dislike someone because they choose that lifestyle. I have worked with gay people and as long as they don't force their beliefs on me... just as I wouldn't force mine on them, its no problem. I don't mind discussing their lifestyle if they don't mind discussing mine. Point is, I can disagree with you politically or spiritually or about sports and so on... It doesn't mean I don't like you or I despise you. I have liberal friends... its all good!

The sad truth, is that just because someone disagrees with another's lifestyle, or finds it immoral... they immdeiately pull out the hate/discrimination card! Just because someone does not believe in the same things you do, doesn't make them a bad or hateful person!

There is a BIG difference between morals and hatred!

There's actually more than one gay "lifestyle", and nobody can "force their beliefs" on you. Also, most gays I know would argue with your characterization of them as having chosen to be the way they are. This is probably what your quick-to-judge-detractors were getting at. When you say things like that, you do sound homophobic, whether or not you actually are.

If I said that I had conservative friends, but disagreed with the conservative lifestyle, I would sound pretty silly to myself.

In fact, at work we have a clock that actually runs counterclockwise, and the nine is where the three usually is and the five is where the seven usually is, so you can actually tell time with it, it's just backwards.

Whenever anybody comments on it, I explain that the boss is left handed, and it's a left-handed clock. Not that I mind people being left-handed in the privacy of their own homes, in fact some of my best friends are left handed. I just don't think they need to be out in public pushing their left-handed agenda, trying to teach my kids to be left-handed...

Do I sound "sinistrophobic"?

Well, there's a few things going on here. Firstly, if the word homophobe makes you cringe, then you may want to find a different forum than the Politics and Government room. There are much worse insults just lying in wait for you.

Second, you sound like a reasonable person. Please rise through the ranks of the Republican party!!! They've been lacking reason for so long, and desparately need you. While you may be content to let the gay people be gay without interference, a large portion of your party isn't. They revile homosexuals as perverts who should be cured or punished.

The problem, I'm guessing, came in when you stepped up to defend the GOP. It painted you with everything they represent. You may not personally buy into it all, but associating yourself with them creates a psychological link in the mind of the reader between yourself, and all the perceived harm the Republicans have caused. It's like walking into a Jewish bar (are there jewish bars?) and saying "No, no, the Nazis weren't all bad." While it's quite obviously impossible for you to have been a WWII nazi, stepping up to defend them creates mental parallels.

They take a more black and white view. If youre not with them, then youre against them.

So good. Im NOT with them. Im very much against them because theyre trying to reshape society in their own godless image and teach my family, friends, and kids that God doesnt care, or he doesnt exist.

Thats exactly how it needs to be, devoid of passion. If someone hates God and Christianity, I dont expect them to hate me as a person (but they do) and show proper respect like I do for others whom I disagree with. I may not believe that people are "born gay and helpless" but I dont expect to be attacked for my belief.

A conservative that is not a radical on here? Maybe there is hope. I am a Democrat, not a liberal and it is nice to meet a moderate from the other side. I agree with you on all points.

I never heard that....and I live in Seattle.

Civil Union....?
Who am I to say who can visit somebody else in a Hospital.
Or name as beneficiary of estate?

Marriage?
Isn't that a religious ceremony?
That is up to the churches.
Government can't write a law tellng churches they HAVE TO conduct marriage ceremony that runs afoul of CHURCH laws, doctrine...

Or can they?

I don't think they can.

add:
oh ...and the attachment of "phobe" at the end of a word is a tactic used to give the user of word....
THE LAST WORD......

the word is usually preceeded with...
"you're just a"......

AN "OUT" FOR THOSE WHO CAN NOT HOLD UP THIER SIDE OF ARGUMENT.

phobe bugs me too..
and I am pretty liberal...

I think the answer to your question lies in the explanation you gave below it:

"I have worked with gay people and as long as they don't force their beliefs on me... just as I wouldn't force mine on them, its no problem."

This attitude is a liberal attitude (although many would--mistakenly, I believe--call it moderate). You believe in the liberal idea of letting people be who they want to be, so long as they do not hurt others.

The problem is that the Republican party (and many Republican activists) see homosexuality as a scourge that needs to be wiped out. It is the spokepeople of the Republican Party who have made the dialogue so vitriolic and hateful...you're simply getting caught in the crossfire...perhaps because you won't stand up to conservative demagogues?

I have noticed that people tend to forget that people are allowed by the very virtue of their existence to make their own judgments about what they choose to support, promote, like or dislike.
Quite frankly- I think it's absurd that any one would want to use their choice of sex partners to grant them a minority distinction. Who I choose to sleep with or not certainly is not what defines my identity or my position in life.

It's easier to call you names than to have an intelligent debate where they may have to show proof of there opinions. It's always there way or the highway. Please, do not confuse them with facts either. Peace
