Have they been taken over by communists?

No. They have been talen over by liberals who pander to special interest groups.

In days of old Democrats were much more conservative and were the 'Party of the Common Man'. As the liberals hijacked the party those Conservative Democrats started voting for Republicans because they were and still are Conservative first and Democrat second.

These folks will still vote for Democrats. But in the south they won't vote too much for liberals. This explains Gore's losses in the south in 2000 and why what was once the solid Democrat south now frequently votes for Republicans for President even though the majority of their legislatures are still Democrats.

They have been taken over by marxists, intent on tearing down western civilization. When the founders of the modern liberal movement, none of whom were born in the US, realized in the '20s that marxism had failed in the USSR to the point that it had to be enforced militarily, they also realized that starting from the ground up was the only way to make it succeed. Taking over the media, entertainment and teaching industries was the first step. Everything fell into line from that point. Schools took away the authority of the parents so that the little minds could be properly indoctrinated into a politically correct mindset, the entertainment industry ridiculed the church, the police and the father as authority figure in the family. It has been a tremendously effective strategy, arriving completely under the radar of the liberal voter.

As for the comment that the party being taken over by communists is difficult to prove - not so. It requires some research, but if you can compare Senator McCarthy's list of those communists he suspected of infliltrating the federal government in the 40s and 50s and compare it to the archived files of the KGB which were declassifed by the russian government in 1990, you'll find out that McCarthy's list was 100% accurate and that everyone on the list had been paid by the soviets. McCarthy was subsequently driven to suicide and has never been vindicated by the left. Unfortunately the republicans at the time didn't believe him either.

You could ask the same of the Republican Party after Reagan.
I think both parties have succumbed to the harsh realities of a dysfunctional society. Whose is unsure of its path, & its moral compass is askew.
The minorities now rule the direction of party policy; these small but vocal groups are able to sway party policy in their favor.
This distances the candidates from the real issues & moderate voters, creating voter apathy which in turns fuels the problem further.
Examples of this can be found in the theory of man made Global warming, & the Evangelical Christian movement.
The broad divide creates a poisonous atmosphere which is harmful to everyone.
It will take a leader of great vision & moral standing to help overcome this, unfortunately I have yet to see one emerge during this presidential campaign.

No.

It's just that all the racist southern Democrats have since become Republican. Good riddance!

That and the fact that the sons and daughters of the Party of Lincoln have been becoming Democrats ever since.

That's why the north is now Dem country and the South Repub.
