I've got a fair amount of dust that was produced while cutting some aerated cement (breeze) blocks, and I was wondering if I can treat it like fresh cement and use it to make mortar?
(otherwise I'll have to go out and buy another bag even though I only need a bit more!!)

The cement dust is no longer usable due to the chemical reaction that occurs when it is mixed with water. The the properties of the cement are still there, they are in a different form.

Please wear a mask when cutting concrete of any kind. Silica is a product of cement and is a fine dust particle with barbs. When you inhale it, the silica attaches itself to your lungs and does not leave when you exhale.

Someone played hookey the day the chemistry teacher was talking about how calcium carbonate bonds with water to harden. No, unless you heat treat the concrete dust it will not return to cement. And what will you do with the powdered sand and gravel in the mix as well?

The answer to this question is simple, it is yes and no both!!!
yes you can reuse cement or as some call it concrete, however, before all start with NO, you can NOT reuse it as in remixing it. My brother in law buys it up and that is what he has used in his driveway. SO YES you can! use it in other areas, he buys dump truck loads and has done his flat spot for their triple wide trailer to sit on, then has about 50 on both sides and back with it, also his huge horseshoe driveway is done in this too.

Now for the NO, No you may not break it apart and remix it up and put back where you just removed it from.

hope this helps you!

A lot more trouble than its worth! As others have said its a chemical reaction that hardens the original mix which is activated by the addition of water & once hardened cannot be reground/re used

You can use it as sand, (aggregate),
not cement, (Binder).
The two, mixed together, are 'Concrete`.

No. It hardens via a chemical reaction. You'd just end up with a wet slurry that dried and crumbled.
