The whole series is some what fairy tailish. It is basicaly a mix of Peter Pan, Forest Gump, and The Lord of the Rings

Hm... JKR did surprise me by writing such an epilogue. I half expected it to be tragedic and was getting myself ready for deaths and deaths and deaths. So, though it IS fairy taleish, I don't mind at all. In fact, I found myself smilling when I finally finished and closed the book. After all kinds troubles, I think Harry needs some fairy tales. Besides, how could anyone bear to kill off Harry, Hermione and Ron?

I think the ending and the epilogue are more in keeping with the earlier books. The first three books had endings that were very upbeat and happy-go-lucky,the fourth was kind of in between, having the first major death (Cedric Diggory), and the the last three were darker and more serious. I think she wanted to return to the roots of the series by having a happy ending.

I finished about two weeks ago. : )

*Spoilers for people who haven't read/finished Deathly Hallows:

And, I do sort of agree with you in a way. I loved the book and epilouge, but, yes, it was very predictable, but I wouldn't call it "fairy tale-ish". I mean, my mom doesn't have a clue about Harry Potter half the time, and she guessed what happened before I told her, and she was right. It's tipical...Harry and Ginny get married, Ron and Hermione get married, Neville becomes a Herbology professor, etc. I'm still glad with the ending, but I wish J.K. could've thrown a twist somewhere in there. : ) But I am glad Harry, Ron, or Hermione didn't die. :)

I was a bit disappointed with the epilogue. I thought it ended a bit too soon and was kind of vague. But I guess there wouldn't really be a better way to finish it, and I have to love it for the basic reason that it's the end.

I have totally finished all the Harry Potter books! The epilouge was kinda...weird and corny, but it was more of a sum-up i think to tell the readers that Deathly Hallows is definitely the last book of Harry Potter series...

The 7th book altogether was a disappointment for me and my Harry potter- obsessed friend, lol!

i loved the book, but the epilogue was a bad idea. i expected something deeper or maybe mysterious from j.k. rowling, but the book is supposed to be for the kids so it ended the usual fairy tale-ish way.

It was a little like a *happy ending* that happens in fairy tales. I was a bit disappointed that Rowling ended that way, but she assumed what most readers would want to have for Harry and his friends. So I guess it was okay. Hope I helped!

Yes I thought J.K Rowling picked up the fairy tale ball when she made the epilogue.

I wouldn't call it a fairy tale but more "predictable and obvious" However I did love the last book and the ending just the same
