Trying to remember the name of this movie that I saw on TV a few months ago, could even be older than 50s, but it was in color. This was about an outbreak at a lab that was releasing deadly gas and they had to create an antidote. I remember there being a helicopter crash and people in a state of panic. It was in the desert, looked like Arizona or something. I could be off on the title, it could be Scarlet or Red, something like that.

To all those who said "The Adromeda Strain" - this is not the movie. This was a borderline low budget film.

...if not "The Andromeda Strain", could you possibly be referring to the thrilling 1965 sci-fi drama, entitled "The Satan Bug"??? The premise is very similar...

Look up "The Andromeda Strain" . If that is not your movie ...watch it anyway. You'll enjoy it.
