If I get a french manicure with gel nails - I can decide to get polish the next time and then go back to a french manicure can't I?

Yes you can.....they can initially do a French manicure with pink and white gel........then you can polish them.....and take it off your self if you want........when you remove the polish the gel should still be shiny ......go to a reputable Salon and have them done for best results...and maintain them!!......otherwise what is the point of getting enhancements in the first place ?

Gel is just the coating that goes over the acrylic.
Instead of using clear nail polish as a top coat, gel is used and you stick your tip in a special dryer.
Gel keeps that high gloss, I just got my nails done look for a few weeks, and since you should probably be getting a fill every 2 weeks or so depending on how fast your nails grow, basically your nails look awesome all the time.
Gel doesn't come off with nail polish remover, it's sanded off during the fill process.
Switching back and forth from gel to a normal top coat is not a problem.
Gel is addictive and totally worth the extra few dollars.

I only have gel nails done for very special occasions, it lasts about 5 weeks without chipping. Once taken off my nails break very easily, I try to leave them without gel polish for 2/3 months.

i believe so.
i just go money from my mom for working with her and was going to go and get my nails done with gel nails!
so i guess i will find out!
do you know how long they stay on?!
and how expensive?!

I just had that and it was my first time i will never do it again...nobody told me that it will make your real nails look ugly if you decide to remove it...and you have to wait till it grow to look better..o well, women ofcourse we want to try everything...if you have nice nails don't.

yes u can...all gel is, is to make the polish last longer, and shine longer...where i get mine done, she uses acrylic then end coat it with liquid gel...i love it!!! it helps make it stronger as well.
