I am trying to get cast on a reality show.

In order to audition for the show you can either send in an audtion tape or you may attend an open casting call.

The closest city to mine with a casting call scheduled is approximately 400 miles away, and although I don't mind traveling that, I was curious as to which way of auditioning would be more effective.

Would I have better luck with an audition tape (5 min) or a casting call?

I'm reallyoutgoing, and I'm the "class clown". I hate to "fake" myself like I'm going to have to do with the audition tape....I have been storyboarding the whole thing, and it's starting to feel like it's becoming horribly disingenuous...

As much more conveinent as tapes are, they don't really convey the "real you" as much as one would hope. Auditions done on tape can be done and re-done before you send them, so the judges don't really know what they're going to get if they pick you.

Although you would have to travel so far, if you could attend the casting call (cattle call), it would probably be better.

If not, send them your tape anyway, just do your best to put yourself in a genuine light and perhaps they will call you for an in person audition.

Good luck!

Audition tapes are stacked a mile high in a producer's office. If you truly want to get on the show....get to that open call. They will see you face to face...and you'll have a much better chance of getting selected. BE loud and happy and outgoing...and get their attention without freaking them out in that "She's ADHD kind of way." Good luck!

I agree with the first answer.

However, if you want to do just one, I would invest the time and money in travelling to the casting call. This gives the auditors the option of actually speaking with you and further ascertaining your personality.
