The average will do you no good. Open up My Computer right click on your hard drive and select properties. The General tab will have your total capacity, used space, and free space. This will not be exact to what your hard drive is for instance mine says 232 GB but its really a 250 GB. Good Luck HTH.

Double click My Computer and then right click on the drive you want to check...once the menu pops up, click Properties. It will show you a pie chart of the total space and free/used space on your hard drive.

In addition, once a drive is formatted to use with Windows, it looses a bit of its free space, so a 250GB Drive will have 230GB of free space, and a 160GB drive will have about 147GB of free space.
