Because it's the medical protocol. I agree it seems a little weird.

Look at it this way...you're on the table, they've put in the line they're going to use for the lethal injection..and there's a call from the governor's office stopping the execution. New evidence has come to light, and you're found not guilty. Only they used a dirty needle for the line...and you now have been infected with HIV or Hepatitis D.

This would be not a happy time for you.

Good quesionk, I never thought of that.
They could be saving a few cents every injection.
Hell, they should use the same needles until it gets really dull too, not like that person is going to be able to spread aids around.

In case the injection fails and the offender catches blood poisoning from a dirty needle.

They come already prepared don't they? I think they are disposable. I assume there is no unsterilized needles for sale out there so they use the ones prepacked. Can you imagine if they didn't? People would be screaming that it was cruel and inhuman punishment:)

well, something may go wrong and the person may live, then develop an infection and sue...???? protocol, rules must always be followed, once you drop one, another is easy to drop. So it is best to have a complete program and follow thru.

Uhh...in case the person administering it pokes themselves? Although in that case an infection would be the least of their problems, wouldn't it?! ;)
