The top three are humans, non-human primates and toothed whales and pigs and elephants.

Further down the list you will also find cats, canines, parrots, crows/ravens, rats and octopus.

When it comes to the top ten the first five will be about the same on all science based lists, it is when you move into the 6-10 section of the list that you will see the order as well as the contents change slightly.

Probably monkeys and apes. They work together in groups, feed together, protect each other, etc. But this doesn't make them smart. Almost all pack animals act like this, so what makes an animal smart? One way to define it is to ask which animals are most human-like.

Apes and monkeys communicate with each other, they have obviously displayed the capacity to grow affection for each other (and humans!), so they have feelings. This is a very advanced and social capacity that many animals don't have.

Elephants are also smart, in that they have one of the longest memories of any other animal (hence: an elephant never forgets). They have been shown that they can travel back to a place they have only been once by memory. They also have a family structure, and the adult females will occasionally "babysit" other baby elephants. Elephants too have been shown to mourn at the loss of a family member, so they also have a sense of emotion and attachment.

Not including humans and dolphins, the common pig is considered to be the most intelligent of animals.

Though monkeys and apes do use tools and are often thought of as very intelligent (largely because of their resemblance tohumans) the pig has demonstrated problem solving abilities far superior.

Following that is the raven.

Every animal has an own intelligence that originates him from the instinct, anybody, of it me of it another can affirm that an animal is more intelligent than another but every animal it suits of him characteristics for his best of the possibility, to the environment that surrounds to him, for the survival.

It depends on how you define "animal". Bacteria and other single-cell organisms are the smallest life forms, but I'm not sure where you would make a distinction between "animals" and just "organisms"
