Ever since #754, the baseballs used in the game have been numbered. That's how they can tell which one is the real one. They know which numbers are being used in each at bat. They would be aware of a numbered ball that was fouled off.

I think each ball is marked differently, either by a chip, a bar code, something that will be able to say which ball is the home run, which ball is the foul ball.

they had a set of maybe 4 or 5 balls, and if all of them were foul they would bring out a new set of marked balls hope this helps = ]

The bat boy brings out 3 balls that say 756 on them ever time he comes up to the plate.

From what I understand, it's a special "water-mark" on the ball that can be seen under a certain type of light. No one knows if its a symbol or a numeric code on it as it's highly "classified" so that there is no chance of fraudulent marks.

Security guards were everywhere so they could see who cayght the ball, like the guy who caught number 756 they saw him catch it and escorted him out of the mob of people.
