Ne1 know of ne good book that i should read for my summer reading for school. They have to be really intriguing, and hard enough for an 8th grader. Also it can't have been made into a movie.

If you want to make an early impression, call the HS you're planning on attending and ask them about some novels they use for 9th grade English. Maybe you'll save yourself some reading in 9th grade.

Here are some others though:

Look at these:

http://www.life-after-harry-potter.com

Included is a list of only the best sorcery fantasy books, grade reading level, and a short review of each book. The following, to the best of my knowldge, have *not* been made into a movie:
..The Once and Future King (long, though)
..The Acts of King Arthur
..The Dying Earth by Jack Vance (one book from the "Tales of the Dying Earth" - maybe a *little* long)
..A Spell for Chameleon (this would be a good choice)
..The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant (too long)
..Seventh Son (a little long)
..Thieves' World (another good choice)
..Nine Princes in Amber (a little long)

I think A Spell for Chameleon would be best, but the grade reading level seems on the low side. Perhaps The Dying Earth by Jack Vance would be the best choice. It's an anthology of several smaller stories (all based in the same setting) - only the last is slightly long. There are interesting female characters. You will probably need a dictionary for a few of the words (and a couple really odd words you will not be able to find - he either makes them up or uses archaic words no longer found in anything other than the OED). These words should convince your teacher that the book is hard enough for an 8th grader.

I hope this helps.

The Red Badge of Courage (Stephen Crane);
the Old Man and the Sea (Ernest Hemingway); The Catcher in the Rye (JD Salinger); Cat's Cradle (Kurt Vonnegut); The Hand-
maid's Tale (Margaret Atwood...long. but good read)"To Hell with Dying" (Alice Walker) The Bell Jar (Sylvia Plath) The Johnstown Flood (non-fiction, David McCullough) Flowers for Algernon (?)
Go to the library and just browse. Pick out a book and run through a page or two. Always give a book one hundred pages before you stop reading it!

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. It is an AMAZING book. It's nearly 500 pages long, but it'll pass by very quickly. I got it from the library one afternoon and I was done by 1:30 am.

It's not the typical vampire romance. Edward Cullen and his family really aren't typical vampires and the romance in the book is between a vampire and a human. He loves her, but his vampire instincts also make him want to kill her.

It's exciting, funny, sweet, and just about everything you would ever want in a book. Everybody I know that's read it has loved it and became OBSESSED. I had my English teacher read it and he's assigning it to his students next year.

And it's not a movie. If it does become a movie, it won't be for at least two years, but probably more.

J.D. Salinger would be ideal. His books are short, but have depth. My personal favourite is called "Franney & Zooey".

J.L.Borges' "Labyrinths" is also good, but might be a little tough for an eigth grader.

Also try Franz Kafka. He wrote some excellent short stories, as well as novels. "The Trial" is his best known, you will find this book quite helpful for comparing Orwellian literature that you will soon read, or may have already.

well I would say the sixth or seventh HP book, but you would have to read all the others first. And those are the only two in the series that haven't been made into a movie.

The Neverending Story~

It is amazing and although it was made into a movie, a copy of the movie is very rare and can not compete with the book~
Please read it~
