see, every thursday night, one of my friends goes to this church in irving. she has been wanting me to go with her for so long so finally i went two weeks ago, and i told her that when i get another thursday off, i would go again. well i was off last night but i canceled with her to go swimming at the lake with some other friends. i had been telling her for the past two weeks that i would go back with her but i blew her off for someone else. does that make me a bad person?

No... But i dont think you did the right thing- If you did'nt want to go with her u should have just told her that you forgot that you had something else on....Or that something important had arose, and you had to be there...?
But just because you didnt want to go somewhere with her it doesnt make you a bad person. But next time you should tell her the reason that you cant go- like when you went to the lake you should have said to her "I cant go to the church with you tommorrow because i forgot that i promised to go down to the lake with some friends ages ago- sorry..."

No, just human. Try not to make commitments so far in advance then you won't feel guilty when you want to cancel or opt to do something else. Days off are precious commodities. Sometimes planning to do absolutely nothing is a plan in and of itself. (Oftentimes women generally have problems with that concept but it's perfectly okay to have downtime to do "nothing").

It kinda makes you a liar. Your not a bad person you just should be more honest. Tell her exactly how you feel. Nobody can force you to go to church and you shouldn't have to lie just not to go.

Your just going to have to be honest with her and tell her it just not your cup of tea. If you really wanted to go, you would of. Honestly, I would make efforts for my friends but not on my days off when there are other things I would rather be doing.

Just tell her it's not you. It doesn't make you a bad person cause you don't want to go, but it doesn't make you a good friend because your not being honest

Not a bad person, just not a good friend. Friends don't lie to one another, if you don't want to go just tell her you don't care to go again, but thank her for inviting you.

religion is a personal thing. If you don't want to go back, tell her that you appreciate her sharing her church with you but you prefer to handle your religious beliefs your way.

Well, if you do not want to go to church with her, then you should be honest with her. Do not promise her something that you cannot/do not want to follow through on (i.e., going to church), and then ditch her to do something else.
Never make a promise you can't keep.
