how do you find out if a Charitable organization is Legit?

And is there any website or organization who keeps up with reporting on where they spend their money? What percentage of their budget goes to what?

http://www.guidestar.org/ will show you info on their 990 filing - that's the form that non-profits file annually with the IRS showing their income and expenditures.
