Tell them that you are ready to buy and trying to find the best price. Tell them that you are going to shop around and compare prices. The salesman will ask you what will it take for you to buy today? That is about a standard question. Do not give him a direct answer or a figure. Ask him what his best and final price is. He may hee haw around but eventually he should give you a figure. Tell him you will use that figure to compare and you may be back later on today or tomorrow. The salesman will already have your name and most likely your phone number. Go ahead and leave the dealership and use that figure to compare against other vans.
Play one dealer against the other. Don't be too quick to make a decision. Whatever you do, sleep on it for a night and think about it. Do not buy the van on the first trip there. I know you are excited and you want to buy, but they know that too and will use that to get more money out of you. The salesman commission will depend on how much he can get out of you.
good luck.

Time to put on your poker face girl!!!!!
these guys are pro's at knowing who they are dealing with... so the best ace in your hand is information and knowledge...
get on the internet and look at the Kelly blue book for the car etc... get the info on what features are on the car so you can compair apples to apples kind of thing... so millage, years, what features are in the car all play a part of the cost.. and what do you want etc.. and expect the car too do...
so... what is a good ploy... walk on.. look at both and look kind of interested... the LEAVE.. yes.. just leave... sounds like you have all ready done that...
ask for a quote... well here is your price.. but.. what could you really get me into that car for?????
Here is the tough part... but LEAVE again... you see, the longer your at the car lot... the more they know they HAVE YOU set at that price... now just LEAVE...
get your thoughts about you, and come back with a lower price then they offered... make it $1,000 or $2,000 less or so.. put your facts together... well I found another car that had this or this and was same price etc... the millage seems a bit high, a cigarett burn in the seat.. torn floor mats... etc... etc... push them to bring down the price..
well, sorry mamm that is the lowest we can go... the guess what... LEAVE... walk away...... come back and try again..
it is a daunting task but turn it into a game, an adventure.. get too the point that they know you are going to buy a car... but on your terms... they will want you to just flop over and sign it.. and they can wait you out by.. "Oh.. we have others looking at this same car.. can't promise it will be here in the morning." kind of things..
pull up auto, used , type in the same car at 200 mile range and you will probably find a dozen just like it.. so don't be rushed, don't be bullied.. have facts and the greatest power you have over these guys is when you walk off their car lot as they loose all power.. you have $ in your pocket and they want it bad... make THEM work for it... hold tough, hold firm and work that price down...
Now, game face baby, gather the info.. make them work for their money, take your time and remember.. if that car sells there are thousands just like it heading for the market.. it is not an ending procession... that's why it is a USED car market..
good luck..

i don't like playing the car buying game with salespeople but.... just tell them that is more than you wanted to pay. when they ask what you are willing to pay tell them you found one elsewhere for less money but you like this one better. example.... the one for 26,000 you saw for 23,600 and the one for 21,000 you saw for 18,500. they will then tell you they can't go that low but they can give it to you for.... what ever they tell you again say no and ask for an additional 500 off.
the purpose of the salesman is to get as much profit as he can. so they will never give you the best price from the start. they will only go down a little at a time to see how much you are willing to pay. every offer will be just a little more off.
find a dealer like mine where the salespeople are paid more in bonuses for the number of vehicles sold than in commision on each car. they will give you the best prices.
we just bought a 1 ton, 4 door, dually, 4x4 pick up, fully loaded with elect. sunroof, back window, all elect, windows, locks, 6 way elect. seats. 6 cd player. ect. for 6 grand less than other dealers were offering.
southwest ford, weaterford, texas. when you find an honest dealer and salesman you will want to keep track of them for the next time. i have been doing business with this one for 25 years. but i still looked everywhere before i bought.

i worked at a car dealership so i know how this works. walk in, be polite, and let them show you the car. tell them that yes you are willing to buy today, so they know you are a serious buyer and not just wasting there time(they will pay more attention to you and be More attentive to your needs). test drive the car and everything, go through EVERYTHING so the salesmen REALLY wants the sale now. sit down at the desk and tell them where you want your payments and how much you are willing to spend. going at the end of a month is your best bet, you get the best deals. and basically tell them, "i will buy today if i can get this car for $21,000(?)".. it will work hope this helps :)

Be confident.Go in there like you can buy whatever you want.Try to control the conversation between you and the car salesman. I would say to the car salesman I only have 21,000 can you please do me a deal on that amount,I really like this van and dont have time to shop elsewhere.
