Here's one to ponder:

if N-A-T-U-R-E is nature (nay-chur), why isn't M-A-T-U-R-E may-chur???

I have another one for you. Why isn't the plural for house, hice since the plural for mouse is mice?

"Mature" was actually pronounced like "nature" at one time. To see for yourself, pronounce "maturation." The correct pronunciation is "m-A-turation," with the "A" sounding like you are reading the alphabet. People over time have just condensed the pronunciation since the original came from Old English & before that, Latin.

The way the English language borrows and steals & has rules that must be broken, while having alternate pronunciations and silent letters and........phew....you just may be right!
