Depends of course on the cannon. Fired out of a circus cannon that uses a huge spring to launch a person, there would be no heat to pop the corn.

Fired out of a civil war cannon, where ordinary black gunpowder was used, some of the kernels might pop. That's because civil war gunpowder was relatively slow burning so heat on the kernels might be applied long enough in the barrel to cause a few kernels to pop.

Popping is caused by heat on the inner kernel of the corn. The heat causes the moisture there to steam and the steam is what forces the kernel to open with the white popped look. Sweet corn will not pop for example because it lacks the requisite moisture in its kernel.

However, given how long it takes for the first kernel to pop in a microwave or convection cooker, I would guess the corn would not be in the barrel of any powder powered cannon long enough to absorb sufficient heat to pop it. My guess is that the corn would be burned and/or pulverized, but not popped.

Yes
but the best way to do this is put your popcorn in your cannon, no explosives needed. Put in some water for steam seal the end of the cannon with a hatch thinner than the sides of your cannon so the end blows off before the walls blow out and hurt some one. Heat it up past boiling and pull the latch from a distance. use a big fishing net or a screen to catch the popcorn of puffed rice. both work. be careful a steam explosion in a house or basement tends to blow out all the windows and scald anyone close by.

Jiffy Pop is much easier and cheaper than repairing all the windows before your dad gets home. He might not be in the mood for popcorn.
Your brothers and sisters might enjoy popcorn while watching the show of you getting a spanking.

Talk to your science teacher. They love to blow things up and they know how to be safe doing so.

Heat causes corn kernels to expand and pop, there should be enough heat generated in a cannon shot to do this.
