In some ways he deserves so much respect in other ways ehh... I question it... Ways he deserves it is by of course his overall statistics and being probably one of the top 10 maybe top 5 pitchers everywhere. 2nd he protects his players. It's obvious the Blue Jays were still sore about the Arod yell and threw at him 2 days in a row. I think they are a bunch of wusses for doing it in Toronto instead of doing it the series after the incident in NY but that's another story. I fully support him beaning Rios and a 5 game suspension for a pitcher is 1 start so not much loss there...
Ways I don't respect him... Play a full damn season... pitching half a season and getting paid top 5 in the league is ridiculous..
I guess this is more of a vent than a question, but what are your opinions about him beaning Rios??? Warranted? or what?

Eastside, if that's the case how was it between Arod and the Jays and not Arod and the 3rd baseman???
That makes no sense to say 2 different pitchers had the right to throw at the Yankees best player and not have something done in return..

I don't like to see any of my Jays hit with a pitch, but it was warranted. Towers was obviously throwing at A-Rod, and Clemens was just being a good teammate. If Clemens had really meant any malicious intent, he could have thrown at Rios's head.
Pitchers like Clemens are a rare find these days, guys who aren't afraid to bust a batter inside. When he and guys like Pedro do that, they're considered headhunters, but they've got to do something to compete given that MLB tries to do everything to favor hitters.

As far as retaliation beaning, I can understand it. If you ask any MLB player, theyll tell you its just part of the game, you just gotta protect your team and it's not like Clemens was aiming for the head.
As far as the half-season, I can certantly understand the frustration because it draws so much attention from the team and can be a distraction, but consider a different perspective: If you were a manager, how great would it be to have a high caliber pitcher start fresh in the middle of the season when your competitions pitching has been put through the normal fatigues of the first half of the season? I mean, it's the end of the season that really matters, right?

I'm a Jays fan and I'll say that Clemens did things the right way. He knew, Rios even knew it because he just took first base instead of freaking out.
Selig and his cronies are the only ones who don't understand how this works -- Clemens shouldn't have been suspended for playing the game the right way -- the Jays finally were able to make their point, Clemens made his and the Yankees point and everything should have been finished without Selig meddling in.
The reason the Jays couldn't throw at Girly-Rod in the series in NY is because Selig and his cronies were ready to freak out on them if they responded in the traditional baseball way.
MLB continues to survive and thrive despite the idiots supposedly running it.

Of course him beaning Rios was warranted. They were clearly after Alex Rodriguez and you just can't let people go after your guys like that. I agree with you, as a pitcher you've got to settle the score. Actually, I have a problem with the way that the bench warning rule works. It was obvious that there was a score to settle in Toronto and yet they suffer no reprocussions because they were reacting to the happenings of a previous game. So Clemmens, sticking up for his guy gets five games.
As far as the play a whole season thing goes, I do disagree though. Don't balme him for that. Blame the GMs that pay him insane amounts of money to play on those terms. I know if I could negotiate a contract that allowed me to only work for 1/3 of the year and get paid like I worked the whole thing I would take it. That and you have to factor in that he's looking out for the quality of his performance. He's getting older and I think it bodes well for the qulity of his work to not try to put in a whole season. That aside though, I feel like the front office in many organizations don't take their share of the blame. Cashman gives Clemmens that deal and he's the jerk, the two man GM operation in Boston (can't think of their names at the moment) let the Yankees snatch up Damon because they didn't want to deal with him, pretty much letting the issue just sit assuming that he would come around to their terms and Damon is a traitor, the Giants give Bonds a contract with everything that is surrounding him but it's all Bonds and Selig's fault, no blame on Brian Sabean. They're the ones dishing out the money and making the player decisions. I don't blame Clemmens at all, although I don't like the decision that Cashman made. Although, they needed quality arms and someone else would have given him that deal so I get it.

Roger isn't one that will back down from a challenge, this incident however is clearly on Arod's shoulders.
There shouldn't have needed to be any retaliation, because Arod shouldn't have done that in the first place, it was unbecoming of a professional baseball player, paid millions and one who is supposed to be among the best in baseball.
What I don't like about his half season antics is that he really doesn't care about the team he is playing for.
I know a lot of Yankee fans think that Roger just wants to be back among the Yankees and the 'history' and that kind of crap, but in reality, he did it for the money. he doesn't need it, if he was to have accepted a million dollar contract, then he is in it for the team.
That being said, if you know you can contribute, but you can't do it for 6 months, when do you want your steam to end, August or November.
He is a great player, but again, a hired mercenary for a team of such players.

The beaming of rios was defenetly uncalled for..this wasn't a issue between the yanks and the jays.. it was between a-rod and the jays..Clemens probably elevated the whole situation by throwing at rios

He was justified in hitting Rios. Once they hit A-Rod on Monday that shouldv'e been the end of the issue.
