Tom = x m
Mr Tan = 2x m
Mrs Tan = (8/10) 2x m = (8/5) x m
Tom = (8/5) x - 0.57 m
x = (8/5) x - 0.57
(3/5) x = 0.57
x = 2.85 / 3
x = 0.95
Mr Tan is 1.9 m

Well, if Mr. Tan is 2 times as tall as Tom, then Tom is 5/10 his height. Then Mrs. Tan is 8/10 of Mr.Tan's height. You know that the difference between Tom and Mrs. Tan is 0.57 meters, and Tom is 5/10 of Mr. Tan's height, while Mrs. Tan is 8/10 of Mr. Tan's height, so That means that 3/10 (the difference between Tom and Mrs. Tan) of Mr. Tan's height is 0.57 meters. If you divide this by 3 to get 1/10 of Mr. Tan's height, you get 0.19 meters. Then you multiply this by 10 to get 10/10 of Mr. Tan's height, which is 1.9 meters. That's your answer!

Mr. Tan is 1.9 m, Mother is 1.52 m, and Son is .95 m.

Best I can do to explain: In fraction Tan is 1, mom is 8/10 and son is 1/2. You have to find the value of the difference between mom and son so in you have to make their fraction equal parts: Mom being 8/10 would make son 5/10 (so that both have 10ths). The difference is 3/10...divide their height difference (.57m) by three to find that 1/10 equals .19 m. Now multiply .19 times 5 for son (.95m), 8 for mom (1.52m) and 10 for Tan (1.9 m).

Call "T" = Mr Tan, "M"= Mrs Tan and "t" = Tom.
We have the following equations:

T=2t
M=(8/10)T
t + 0.57 = M

therefore, t + 0.57 = (8/10)T and T=2t so,
t + 0.57 = (8/10) x 2t
We will solve for t:
t + 57/100 = (16/10)t
-t -t
________________

57/100 = (6/10)t

0.57 = 0.6t

0.95 = t

So Tom's Height is 0.95 meters, then using T=2t
we find that Mr.Tan's height is 2x0.95 or 1.9 meters.

Mr Tan's height is 1.9 m...

Let Tom's height be x
Mr. Tan's height would be 2 * x = 2x
Mrs. Tan's height is 8/10 * 2x = 1.6
Tom's height is 1.6-0.57 which equals to x
Hence x is 1.03 and Tom's height is 1.03m
Therefore Mr. Tan's height is 1.03 * 2 = 2.06m

Call Tom's height t. Mr. Tan's height is 2t, and Mrs. Tan is therefore (.8)2t = 1.6t (8/10 Mr. Tan's height).
From the last statement we can say that Tom's height + .57 m equals his mom's height.

t + .57 = 1.6t
t - t + .57 = 1.6t -t
.57 = .6t
.57/.6 = t
t = 0.95 m
Mr. Tan is twice that, so he is 1.9 m tall.

Variables:
Mr. Tan = m
Mrs. Tan = f
Tom = t

Equations:
1.) m = 2t.....................Mr.Tan is 2 times as tall as Tom
2.) f = .8m...............Mrs. Tan is 8/10 of Mr. Tan's height
3.) t = f - .57................Tom is 0.57m shorter than his mother

Put EQ 1 into EQ 2.
f = .8(2t)
4.) f = 1.6t...........multiply 2 by .8 to get 1.6

Put EQ 4 into EQ 3.
t = 1.6t - .57
t - 1.6t = -.57........Subtract 1.6t from both sides
-.6t = -.57
.6t = .57....................Divide by -1 on both sides
t = .95meters ........................Divide both sides by (.6)

Since Mr. Tan is twice as tall as Tom (EQ. 1), plug .95 into t for EQ 1.

m = 2(.95)
m = 1.9meters

He is 1.9 meters tall.
