I'm assuming you are in some kind of relationship with this person already.

You can't control her reaction, but it's nice you are decent enough to care. If it were me, I would say that you are sorry but the relationship isn't moving in the direction you had hoped for, and that you want to be able to see other people.

You could also wait a few weeks before you did date so if she finds out she doesn't think it was because there already was someone else in the picture. Good luck.

Stop dating her slowly if you are dating her. And start dating other gal(s). No matter how you do it though, if she is serious, she'll be hurt. But before the year is up, she'll get over it because the two of you will be dating others.

Be honest but kind and remember that not having the courage to do it now combined with prolonging it WILL only end up hurting her more. It's just not what you are looking for and mention what you did like about her maybe. It depends on what kind of personality she has.

Tell her in a polite manner that you do not see the two of you meshing well together.

It's far more compassionate to just be honest instead of stringing someone along and then dump them. If I was dating a guy and I knew he was looking to "settle down", so to speak, I would like to know that I was not a contender and that be that.

Just tell her the truth - you like her, but don't see the relationship going any further. She may still be a bit hurt, but will appreciate the honesty.
