Frankly, if you are sleepy..you are not getting enough sleep. You may think you are, but you may not be getting REM sleep. So, the issue isn't 'how do I stay awake?' it's 'how do I get better sleep?' I find that when I am getting solid sleep I have no desire for any coffee because I am awake. But the fact is that most people don't sleep enough or have sleeping problems.
Here's a great site on this issue:

(Give it a minute to load...it has a short video.)
Good luck in finding your answer!!

Try going to bed early and getting up early and going for a jog or walk before your day starts. This is a natural energizer. A lot of people think that it would make you more tired, but it gives you an energy boost and definetely wakes you up. Seriously, I've been doing this for a few weeks and I feel so much better. Make sure to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water. This will also help your skin...! Snack on healthy foods throughout the day like fruits and granola bars. Throughout the day get up to stretch and take in deep breaths. Hopefully this will work. Good luck.

Get more sleep at night, and don't skip breakfast.
I had a coffee at almost every morining for a while, then I started taking Omega 3 suppliments (either the fish oil tabs or the flax seed oil tabs) It took me about a week before I realized that when I was taking the suppliments, I wasn't craving the coffee in the morning, and that pretty much carried me through most of the afternoon.

Then drink a lot of PEPSI or REDBULL or you can try natural remedies like exercise, and sufficient sleep. Caffeine is not something you want to take every day, especially if you are not exercising. Try getting a little sun. Sit outside during lunch, and eat light.

Go to the health food store and get Gurana in capsules. It's what gives the energy drinks their zing. Or use the energy drinks that don't contain caffeine.

(besides working on getting a good sleeping schedule) Don't eat sugary things or really starchy things like white bread and bagels (and if you really hve to have it, stretch it out through a long period of time instead of eating it all at once).
You shouldn't have to have coffee/caffeine to stay alert once you get out of the habit
