Has been to four Super Bowls, won three
Has played all 14 seasons of his professional career with the Patriots
Was willing to take a considerable pay cut in order to stay with the Patriots when other teams were offering more
Played DB when the team was decimated with injuries, had three INTs
Returned a punt for a TD in the AFC Champ game against the Steelers
Single-handedly beat the Chargers in last year's playoffs when he forced a fumble immediately after Brady was intercepted for the third time with 6 minutes left in the game and the Patriots down by 8
And 1 Pro Bowl to boot
Most importantly he's the definition of a selfless player and makes plays when his team needs them

I'm not a homer, I'm a Giants fan. I just have a different definition of great. That last claim I made, about selflessness, is more defining to me than Pro Bowls and TD catches. Cool your jets.

He is one of the best players and as a person, he is probably one of the most respected men in the NFL; however, his is no Jerry Rice as Kevlar stated. He is definitely worthy of the hall, and looking at all he's accomplished I am happy to say that I grew up watching Troy Brown and playing in the backyard it was always him I wanted to be him. My first Pats jersey was a Brown jersey from back in 96 (Superbowl loss to Favre and the Packers). Brown wasn't even listed on the WR starting line-up (Terry Glenn and Shawn Jefferson), but in 2001 he was listed as New England's top WR. For an 8th round pick out of Mashall, he has done a lot more than just have a couple contributions to this team. This guy is a legend to all Patriots fans (from 1993-present) and I can't wait to see what magic he'll amaze us with this coming season.
To add to his repitore, he now holds the New England Patriots' record for career receptions (557) after he passed Stanley Morgan's club record of 534 this past season.

Troy Brown is certainly a selfless player and is a true fan favorite because he plays the game with his heart. If anyone is putting out 100% effort it is Troy Brown.
Statistically it is a different story though. Brown only has 31 TDs and 1 Pro Bowl appearance. Jerry Rice has 207 touchdowns and 13 Pro Bowl appearances. Rice is also a member of 2 All-Decade teams the NFL All-Time Team and the NFL 75th Aniversary Team. Rice also has 3 super bowl rings and a super bowl MVP award.
If he were to retire today I doubt Brown would make the NFL H.O.F, and I can be sure it wouldnt be a first ballot "shoo-in" like someone else said.
Hall of Fame person. But far from the best ever. Far far from...

I'm biased, but first ballot HOFer. (OK, I'm biased.:)) I've seen so many games/seasons that would have turned out bad except for the man from Marshall drafted in a round that does not exist anymore.
But like I said, I'm biased from watching the 2001 AFCC, the 2006 AFC Divisional playoff, and the 2004 season.
Without Troy Brown the Patriots do not go to Super Bowl 36 or 39.
(Aside: Do you think Martz knows the lonesome end play yet?:))

Depends on your definition of "Greatest Player"....
Troy Brown is an incredible human being and teammate. Always involved in helping out the community and always willing to put the team ahead of himself. I think that qualifies him as a good player and a great teammate.
In the history of the game, you may or may not find a better person, however, he can't be considered the greatest player ever.

He is a throwback player yes, could he have played both ways his entire career? No. Just winning Super Bowls doesn't make you the best ever. Has he ever won MVP? And he only has 1 pro bowl? He has done what the team needed him to do in order to win, that makes him special, but not the greatest ever. Other players have done it before, and done it better, they are in the Hall of Fame. I don't believe Brown will make it.

being able to be considered great is based on not what you do on the field but also off the field and without any demand for reward. there are a lot of players out there that might not be as top tiered as troy brown is but i believe most of them will be better persons when the time comes. i know troy brown is good.i admit that he is good but the greatest? not yet from what i see

Best ever? Over Rice, Swan, Largent? I dont think he would be my first pick at WR if I was starting a team today..
BUT, He will always be a very good player, a class act and a Patriots legend...

He is the greatest Patriot ever...No question...but I'm a Pats fan...and I'd be hard pressed to put him in the same category with Jerry Rice...Tim Brown maybe...

Are you crazy? Troy Brown might have done all those things that you claim he has done, but he is no where near close to being called the greatest ever. He's not even the greatest in still playing today. He might be impressive but he's lightyear's away from the "greatest".
