check with schools or YMCA. It is not legal for businesses to hire that young. But from what I remember schools and YMCA have resources for people looking for help around the house (moms helper usually cleans or folds clothes or occupies children while mom manages a big task) a garden helper might mow edge and pull weeds or haul junk from messy garage. Usually those jobs you will be working at the same time the adult is there.
If you live in a good neighborhood ask Your parents to make you a "business card" a boy in my area made a moms helper card that said "in a Fix drop by 706" that was his house number and I still remember it. it was catchy. Schools sometimes have babysitting contacts if you have any references. Schools also have children that need some help with basic school work like math or reading or even English grammar. If You are an A student that might be an extra 5.00 a 1/2 hour.
Some single moms do not have time to teach their sons how to play baseball or basketball and their children are behind in basic skills in athletics. If you are good at those things most parents who need the help with pay for a kid coach to help them learn the basics so they are not teased in school. Some kids might help with bike riding skills or roller blading skills or skateboarding skills. Some girls can teach younger girls how to dance or cheer leading moves or baton twirling or even basic art lessons crochet projects. You have to have a lot of patience for that and an ability to be positive and encouraging. Once school start let your counselor know that you are looking for some work. The teachers might pay for help setting up or taking down classroom displays on the weekend a couple of times a year.
Decide what you are extra good at and that you love to do. Good luck and always show up when you say you will. Be clean and polite. ask them for references when your job is done...next year it may come in handy to be able to say these people will verify I do fine work call them. Good luck. Remember this is Your reputation. Be a person of integrity and respect in all you do.

I would start buy babysitting or getting together with friends and start doing yard work most states will not hire anyone under 14 and 15 and in such economic hardship has to be established. Working is important but so is education limit work to avoid conflict with school. Discuss plans with parent or legal guardian if you can not and really need finanical assistance call social services.

At 13 I don't think you can work in a job job, you have to be at least 16 yrs. old for that. You might want to try babysitting, mowing lawns, walking dogs etc.

from Eric C to Eric E, I would say try gettin something close to home as far as babysitting, cutting da grass or str8ening up a yard, washing cars, make a drink (koolaid or tea) or some rice krispies or cookies and sell em, make mix CD's and go to somewhere nearby where a lot of people have to go and set up shop(grocery store parking lot or gas station). There are so many things dat you could do.

Most states require you to be 14 to get "working papers". Maybe if you wanted a paper route or to work on a farm or something, the rules may be more lax...

Ask your school district. They usually know all the available jobs for minors. and some of them could be educational

legally you cannot work. however, you can try working at your local grocery store for tips. you know like bagging people's groceries and taking it to their cars. but the store cannot pay you, you will just be working for tips from the customers.

Try babysitting, or you can be a tutor for younger kids.
