If you had to eliminate one state from the union, which would it be and why? I would choose Iowa because I can only think of one city there (Des Moines), know of no important person from Iowa, and cannot think of a single important historical event that took place in Iowa. West Virginia follows closely.

I wouldn't eliminate any state or our great nation. Each and every state has something beautiful and unique to offer. Most everyone in every state is important. The most important state, in my opinion, is Louisiana. Louisiana has a unique culture and the best food on the planet and ALL of us here in Louisiana are important. Good luck 2D

Iowa has several cities.

Don't forget Davenport.

West Virginia is important because it seceeded into the Union during the civil war, providing an interesting bit of trivia (and has had more soldiers, and more wartime casualties, per capita than any other state in the country), as well as producing the third-most coal of any state in the country.

Maine is important because of the Compromise of 1820

I'd say that probably the least important state, at the end of the day, is probably Oregon. And I'd wager that most Oregonians are probably OK with that.

Iowa has too much corn, useful for ethanol.
W Virgina has too much coal.

On a "value" front I would say Hawaii
On a "what's best for the nation" front, it has to be Texas. Just think how great the US would have been over the last 7 years if Texas was it's own country or part of Mexico.

Mississippi! They didn't ratify the 13th amendment until 1995. They had extreme corruption statewide during the late 60's/ early 70's in both law enforcement and local government that is still around today.
