Well, each reader takes from it what they want.

I would not say the end sucks, but I think I can see where some folks would like more from the ending—that is, I can understand why some people would not like the way it jumps from the end of the battle at Hogwarts to 19 years later. But, this is how Rowling (and perhaps her editor) wanted it to be.

One reason there is this huge gap is that she has material to put into an Encyclopedia of Harry Potter.

To say the whole book was not good, well, that's overstatement by far. The book was excellent and she not only told a gripping tale of the three—Harry, Ron, and Hermione—searching for the Horcruxes, she also wrapped up the series and several story lines quite well. The flashbacks in the Pensieve of Snape's life answer a lot of questions and totally change Harry's perception of Snape.

In the end, I am satisfied with the story and its conclusion. I think the 19 years later bit also helps to answer the "what happens after" questions, and it also removes the pressure to write more. The series is done, she accomplished the complete telling of the tale she wanted to tell.

There's my couple of cents. :)

I agree with many of the things that RP had said. I would also like to add that although the epilogue was a little too 'sugary' and did not quite fit in with the rest of the series, it answered questions about the main characters' futures while still leaving some open for readers to imagine. The main thing that I liked about the epilogue was the fact that after all the hardships that Harry had faced since the deaths of his parents until Voldemort's demise, he finally got his peace in the end. And I thought no one was more deserving of the placidity than Harry.

i dont think it was all bad. i mean i liked the beginning and middle cuz it was action packed and everything. though i would hve to agree that the ending wasnt all that gud. i mean i am happy that harry survived and everything but the "all was well" part did spoil the book. after all that harry had been through the ending was a bit disappointing and i didnt like the epilogue much but all in all that was one of the best books of the series.

I rather enjoyed the book. I knew Harry wouldn't die because the underlying theme of the books was good versus evil, and good usually pervails in the end.

The epilog..I took it to be that it was a chosen time because it was when Harry and Ginny's youngest child entered Hogwarts taking with him the spirit and curiosity that Harry had once possessed. It was a sweet way to tie things together.

Are you kidding! It was awesome, as any of the other Potter books. The ending was great too. Maybe you said that because you're used to a Hogwarts universe, that's why. I think it was kind of nice that J.K. changed the scenery.

well i think it was great... i mean some really great characters died but still great and about the ending... well yea there could have been more to it, i mean i want to know what happened to more people. I think that another one should be written to go with the 19 years later part and then maybe to continue and have it about their kids and in that it would also be somewhat about the original characters.... here's hoping! lol but i don't know that's just my opinion.... and i heard on the news that kids had to go to therapy from reading this book.. ??? why.... it just mind boggles me..

I loved it. I would get into huge debates with people before it came out about whether or not Harry was going to die, and I love how the book makes neither of us right or wrong. Took ME by surprise, anyway. Idk, I just would have been heartbroken if it had ended any other way, I think...

I don't think it completely sucked, but I was definitely disappointed. I thought the book dragged, it seemed rushed, and I very much disliked the ending. If JKR had killed Harry off at the end, that would have been the perfect ending, and when she chickened out using some vague, senseless loophole, I was very disappointed.

The syruppy epilogue didn't help either. I hate it when literary characters name all of their children after other characters that died earlier in the book! That and the dog-previously-assumed-to-be -male-trotting- into-a- room-trailing-a- newborn-litter- of-puppies- and-causing- everyone-to- scream-with- laughter- and-discuss -changing-"his"- name-by- adding-an- "a" device are the most nauseating things an author can do. Which I vaguely remember JK using in one part. Didn't Buckbeak turn out to be a girl? Some animal did.

It didn't suck, it was the right way becuase the right way is rollings way. She wanted the epilogue to have a poetic feeling. It was supposed to be sureen and something that we could easlily imagine.
