6 of the 8 leading democratic presidential candidates spoke at a forum hosted by the Human Rights Campaign. (the two that declined, did so because of scheduling conflicts).

However, none of the leading Republican candidates would agree to a similar forum.

Republicans will not acknowledge existence of gay people and are unwillling to ruffle the feathers of the extreme religious right, who appear to be the core supporters of the Republican party.

Sad thing is, myself and many other gay people, while socially liberal are fiscal conservatives. I would love to be able to support a candidate, (probably Republican) who had similar fiscal views...however, I am unable to do so because of their staunch stand against equal rights for gay people.

What many don't realize is that there is a lot of potential votes and campaign contributions in the Gay community. When we consider how close the last two presidential elections were we know that every vote is very important. What difference does it make whether the vote is cast by one who is gay or straight it is a vote. To ignore such a large segment of the population is to possibly cost one the election. It is foolish to ignore gays or any other special group because you simply disagree with them. Politicians should remember they are running to represent ALL the people not just the ones they agree with.

A fiscal conservative...who? When conservatives pass laws and use phrases to define themselves or their party, they usually mean the opposite of what they are really doing...I guess it's supposed to be a joke or something (like calling a fat guy slim, or a tall guy shorty). When they say they want smaller government, they continuously create more legislation and more ways to intrude on peoples' lives...and this administration has been anything but fiscal...and as far as the gay issue...how could you vote for someone who doesn't want you to have the same rights that murders, pedophiles, rapists (any violent offenders) has? You can break every one of the 10 commandments and still get married, but sleeping with some one of the same sex...that's their top priority?

I'm a Democrat, but I would consider supporting a Republican candidate who was socially liberal and fiscally conservative. My Governor, Arnold Schwartzenegger, is getting there...but not quite there yet. However, I would choose him over Republicans like Bush any day!

There isn't a Republican candidate who helps gay marriage. it is not suitable, although, with the aid of fact no longer helping gay marriage would not propose the candidate is inherently against that way of existence. it is not any clarification for them to no longer vote for the given candidate. maximum politicians do no longer help gay marriage besides, yet liberals look to get their votes. This undertaking ought to no longer be an significant undertaking in 2012, in actuality, i do no longer even assume it to be reported in the marketing campaign lots. the subject is easy: Do i in my opinion help gay marriage? No. ought to there be something in the form or our governmental framework that controls marriage? No.

I would say a lot of you will support Republicans. Well off gay people will decide that their money is more important than their rights, which are not likely to change in the near future anyway. That just comes with being wealthy.

Don't vote for the party, vote for the person whose policies make most sense to you. A party is just a label. Don't assume ALL republicans or all democrats are one way or another.

I think you might be getting it.

Vote for the party that votes for YOU first.

Then when you have equal rights, (not special rights(, then you can switch over to cut assistance for the elderly, disabled, and poor.

But first things first.

Should straight people support candidates who wouldn't let them have equal rights?

That's your personal choice. I respect them for NOT pandering to small, individual groups (and that's exactly what it amounts to).

Darned if I'll opt for Socialism because I'm not catered to. :)
