Just fixed mine. I got a repair kit at WalMart for $3.

It came with an ampule of activator with a brush applicator attached to it. The other ampule has the glue.

1) Use a magic marker to mark where the mirror should be, on the OUTSIDE of the windshield.

2) Using a straight edge razor, carefully remove any glue from the INSIDE of the windshield and the back of the mounting plate part of the mirror.

3) If possible, carefully remove the mounting plate from the back of the mirror. If you can't that will be okay, you'll just have to hold the mirror up to the windshield while it dries. I did it for 15 minutes just to be safe.

4) Use alcohol to clean off both of those surfaces and DO NOT touch them.

5) Crush the ampule of activator and get the liquid to fill the brush bristles. The kit I bought had green colored activator. Begin to apply the activator to the inside of the windshield ONLY within the boundary of the mark you had made earlier. (YOU WON'T NEED TO USE ALL OF THE ACTIVATOR) Then let it dry for 2 minutes.

6) Twist open the glue ampule and apply ONE drop of glue to the mounting plate. Carefully place the plate (whether it is attached to the mirror or not) on the mark that you made earlier BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO LET IT SHIFT OR SLIDE. In about a minute it will stay in place.

If you managed to separate the mounting plate from the mirror, you'll only need to hold it in place for about 2 minutes.

Since I couldn't remove mine, I chose to hold the mirror and plate for the entire 15 minutes of dry time. I didn't like to but it was worth it.

When you are done, a few drops of alcohol will remove the magic marker ink from the outside.

E-mail me through the site link here (in my profile) if you have any more questions.

Use an allen wrench and loosen the set screw on the mirror. There will be a metal piece that you will glue back to the windshield. Get the correct glue from an auto parts store. Clean the glass well, let it dry and then put a good coating on the metal piece and press into place on the windshield. Hold the piece in place until the glue sets. Give it 24 hours to fully cure before you replace the mirror. Only tighten the set screw enough to hold the mirror base tight.

It should last for the life of the car. good luck.

There is two pack of glue that comes in a glass tube with a small rubbing patch for prepping the window.

1) Remove old glue from window using a razor blade or other straight edge.
2) Remove metal/plastic rectangle insert from the mirror. It is usually held in by a screw or push tab.
3) Glue this insert to the window by itself and let the glue dry according to the instructions.
4) Replace rest of rear view mirror on this tab and reinsert screw to hold into position.

Try and do it with the windshield as cold as possible as the adhesive works better with a colder winshield. IE in the morning before work or at night before bed. The best is to glue the tab on before you goto bed and to put the mirror back on the tab when you wake up.

Wal-Marts sells a two-part epoxy glue in a kit, specifically designed for this job.
Don't use too much glue, put a paper towel on your dash, under the mirror (to protect dash from drips), Be sure that you have it in the right spot BEFORE touching to glass (it won't move afterward), & I usually remove the mirror from the baseplate (using an allen-wrench), to make it easier to see/handle.
The other thing that you might consider, is re-locating the mirror to a spot that is better for you as an individual (i.e. higher or lower on windshield, depending on your height, to give you the maximum vision- both forward & rearward!)

A trip to the auto parts store can net most everything you need to do the job. A few common household items are also required. Here's a parts list:

> Rearview mirror adhesive

> Wrench/driver for disassembling mirror mount (possibly Torx or Allen)

> Razor blade
Crayon or grease pencil

> Paper towel

The Steps here show how easy the job is. Because we already had the ancillary products necessary for the job, total cost was approximately $2.00 for the mirror adhesive. Now we're safer and legal once again.

Awsome Bill's right on the money!!!
DO NOT USE SUPER GLUE! IT WILL CRACK YOUR WINDSHIELD!!! I had to replace a guys windshield two days ago for that very reason.Super glue generates a lot of heat as it cures.

The best thing I have found is double sided rubber sticky tape. I have used it for years, as do some mirrors you buy new for fitting. Epoxy resins and superglue might sound good but don't forget there is vibration going through your windscreen all the time. Most of the glues are far too brittle and crack in a relatively short time.
