Im looking to open up my own Sports Bar. The name is something like Fantasy Sports Cafe, or Fantasy Sports Bar & Grill. I wanna open a sports bar dedicated to Fantasy sports. I would have a separate banquet room with a half moon shaped table looking at a nice 100" projection screen TV. You could have draft parties there and come to watch all the games as I would have many televisions. I would have a live stat tracker on 2 monitors in the place and host every fantasy sport. Football, Nascar, baseball, basketball, etc..... It would be WiFi inside so people could bring there there laptops and and have a speaker at every booth so if you see your team playing on any tv in the building you can listen to that particular tv. What do you think of the idea? Would it be something you would go to and watch games? Is this a good idea?

That sounds like a great idea. Fantasy sports have really caught on in the past few years, and I think that is an untapped market.

1. Bars and restaurants are the #1 most likely to fail business ventures. Just keep that in mind.

2. Know your market. Is this idea really going to satisfy a need? Are you positive there is I high demand for this sort of thing where you live?

3. Are you going to gear more towards the restaurant side of "sports bar?" Or do you want to also be a late-night hangout for college students and 20-somethings? I guess my point is: There are several angles you could take, but taking all of them is a recipe for disaster.

4. DO NOT MAKE YOUR BAR A MAN-CAVE WHERE NO WOMEN WILL GO!! Kiss of death. Big time.

5. Bar upkeep is expensive and can be a logistical nightmare.

6. You'll probably want some attractive girls waiting tables right? If so, you will need to make DAMN sure you get good security guys because if one of those drunk, balding, married, fantasy football men gets gropey, YOU are liable.

7. A name is a first impression. "Fantasy" is a terrible sports bar name. I know what you are trying to convey, but very few people will make that connection. Bars called "Fantasy" tend to NOT be the manliest places in the world.

I'm not trying to discourage you, I promise. I just know this game pretty well and you could really lose your *** if you don't go in knowing what you are getting yourself into. PLAN well. INVEST well. PROMOTE well.

Definitely a good idea. I'd probably go to watch the games with my buddies, only catch is the place would have to be pretty huge, so I hope you have the loan and/or starter money to do it.

You should also consider running and managing leagues so that people would want to come to the bar all day on sundays so that they could taunt everyone in their leagues when their guys have big plays.

It would definitely work for football (especially if you have good drink specials on sundays and monday nights), but it could be tough to do for baseball and stuff when the games are all spread out. If you had "local team specials" where any time the local team (ie Phillies if you live in Philly) are playing, you have 2 dollar 25 oz buds or something, that would definitely draw a crowd.

First, I like the name Fantasy Sports Bar and Grill - I don't like the Cafe name if you are going to be in the United States. It just does not sound masculine (your main target audience). It sounds like a fun place. Fantasy football is very popular here in the US. It also sounds different, as most sports bars do not concentrate on the fantasy end of things. Just beer and games. Good luck!

i think that sounds like a really good idea. the draft party idea is awesome because people do love to get together to do that kind of thing, but usually don't want to mess up their house and serve food themselves. having the wifi is excellent too. almost everybody has a laptop these days. i would definitely go there to watch games and just hang out with friends. you might want to have a bar though cause you know how people are with their sports and beer ;) ...you should go for it.

Brother I don't do fantasy sports and I'd go watch games there. Keep the beer cold, the food good and reasonably priced and the atmosphere lively and you've got a chance.

I say a chance b/c restaurants are one of the trickiest business ventures out there but your vision will definitely helps your odds.

Oh hell yea! Man, that's a great idea. Man, that joint would be packed, especially during football season. I know I would come. I like the second name better, Fantasy Sports & Grill.

I think that's a good idea. The only problem with it is that is that you might have a difficult time getting women to come. I would be sure to have certain nights where you hold events for ladies, singles, etc. so it doesn't just become a guy-only hangout. I think it's a great idea, though. I'd come!

I think the only problem you will have is being able to keep up with demand. Sounds like a nice idea, but I would not be able to attend. I am a recovering addict, I don't need to be in bars as they pose a risk to my abstinence and recovery.

Good luck, I hope it does well.
