60/6=10
10^3=1000

This is why 10 times as tall means 1000 times bigger in volume that is if if proportions are maintained in three dimensions.
However a biological system a bit more complex in terms of the relationship of height to mass. Giraffes are taller than elephants however they are much lighter, I think. ;-)

If he's 60 feet tall, he is 10 times taller than a 6 foot man. But he would not remain as skinny as us, he would have to be proportionate to his height (this is an assumption). So he would also have to be 10 times as wide and 10 times as long (if you consider a human a square box, the "length" and "width" would have to be 10 times as much too). This means his total volume would be 10*10*10 times as big as a 6 foot man, or 1000 times the volume. If he was the same density, this would also be 1000 times the weight.

How tall a man is is just a measure of one dimension (height.)

Weight is a function of mass.

If you keep the average density of the mass as a constant, then your primary calculation must be VOLUME.

Volume requires you to use a ratio to come up with the persons length and width in order to calculate the giant's volume.

If he is 10 times taller, then he must also be 10 times wider (side to side) and 10 times deeper (front to back.)

10*10*10 = 1,000.

The quick answer is because the volume of a solid (and hence its weight) increases with the cube of its diameter. Therefore, something twice as big would weigh eight times, and something ten times as big would weigh one thousand times as much.
This is not strictly true in the case of a human, because we are not spherical in shape, and actually a sixty foot man would probably weigh 500 times as much, instead of 1000.

Because his bones would have to be bigger, which means that they'd be heavier same with his muscles and organs. Think about it this way, say you had a watermellon, that was really small, and a giant watermellon, it's obvious that the bigger watermellon would be heavier, because there would be more water and jucies and seeds in the bigger one, to match the proportion of it's size.

Becasue not only does he get taller, he gets deeper, & wider & more massive. In more than one dimension. Ain't physics fun??
