try ask your family, friend & neibour do they want any fish for pet.
if they do not want any fish.
then try to give or sell some to the pet store & if they not going to buy from you then give them some ..

pls ask them to seprate the" female" & "male" if they know ..
so you can just want only female or just want male for pet it up to you to deside..so you won't have this"multiplying" problem anymore...
....hope my answer will be helpful to you...good day..

My family has the same problem with Platies! Your best bet is to definitely find some friends or co-workers who are interested in taking them and giving them a good home. You might also be able to donate them to your local schools, a lot of biology teachers and sometimes elementary teachers might be willing to take some.
And if you do want to sell them back to a pet store, make sure its a privately owned one, because they're more likely to take them than the big chains like Petco or Petland, and I wouldn't even send a fish I hated to WalMart. I know all the non-chain pet stores near me have traded with my father for a few baby platies with interesting color combos we've gotten through interbreeding (and inbreeding, which there isn't much you can do about. I mean, they're fish...) as well as a few pieces of one of our water plants that keeps on growing.

If you can't give them to a pet store them try to sort them. This may be near impossible though, by their sex. If you can keep them from breeding them you will only have to worry about the ones that you have now. I seriously doubt that this is possible though. So try this too, get rid of all the breeding implements that you may have such as breeding grass, ect. Hopefully that will slow the population in your fish tank from increasing. Try to find a friend or relative who wants a couple... and who knows how to take care of them.

Good luck.

1. find friends with tanks who are willing to take them.
2. ask around at pet stores/etc about a local fish society/club and see if anyone there would want them (or better yet, if they have a fundraiser/auction coming up where you could sell them)
3. ask at your local pet stores if they want them in trade for something you need or store credit (although you shouldn't expect to get much, maybe 10-25% of what the store would sell them for, at most)

Sure can, it is a great idea too, and some will trade for other fish or items you may need. With the exclusion of petco, petsmart and walmart who are unable to take them in.

You can also sometimes talk to the people working in the above mentioned stores and get them interested in taking some of them too.

I finally gave all of my live bearing fish up for some Gouramis and rainbow fish. Good luck!

Do you have any friends that are looking to start a fish collection? you could also post something in your local paper for free fish. I doubt the local pet store will take them.

Take out your heater, their breeding will slow down.

Trade your fish for live plants at the pet store.

Try Freecycle.org. You can give away stuff there.

This is kind of mean but get some Serpa Tetras. They looove fry.

The pet store will only take them if their big enough to sell.
Get another tank.
